  • Beyond Seduction: A Bastion Club Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Stephanie Laurens
    • Narrated By Steven Crossley
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In a moment of recklessness, Gervase Tregarth, sixth Earl of Crowhurst, swears he’ll marry the next eligible lady to cross his path. Cloistered at his ancestral castle in Cornwall, with nary a suitable woman for miles, he never expects he’ll have to fulfill his pledge, at least not until the London season begins. But then he meets his neighbor, the very appealing Madeline Gascoigne.

Years of secret service to the Crown have taught Gervase the value of always having a loophole - there will be no wedding if he and Madeline are not compatible in every way.

Toni says: "Great addition to the Bastion Club series"
    "Great story...Horrible Narrator"

This was one of my favorite Bastion Club stories, it has more interaction with DL and their past as spies.

I waited years for an audio version and I can't believe the publishers settled on this narrator for the last of the Bastion Club stories. He can't act so he just gives a very boring reading of a great story. The female voices are screeches that are almost too painful to listen to.

My advice to male narrators, their is nothing you can do to sound like a woman, just soften your voice for the female roles. Trying to raise your voice just makes for a bad comedy and is painful on the ears.

    What a waste.

  • Rumor Has It: An Animal Magnetism Novel, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Jill Shalvis
    • Narrated By Karen White

Special Ops soldier Griffin Reid doesn't exactly have happy memories of growing up in Sunshine, Idaho. He's only come back to recover from a war injury, and while he refuses to admit he's in a weakened state, he finds comfort in the last person he'd expect. Kate Evans teaches fourth grade science in Sunshine, the place she's always called home. Dreaming of graduate school and a happily-ever-after, she's desperate to break out of the monotony of Sunshine.

Felicia The Geeky Blogger says: "Favorite in the Series"
Would you try another book from Jill Shalvis and/or Karen White?

Would you ever listen to anything by Jill Shalvis again?

Animal Magnetism Novels 1 thru 3 were much better than the 4th, Rumor Has It. Jill Shalvis should have stopped while she was ahead.

What didn’t you like about Karen White’s performance?

There was nothing wrong with White's performance. She is a good narrator. Unfortunately, even her performance couldn't save this book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Rumor Has It?

The heroine's constant spouting of stupid science facts. Nearly every time she opened her mouth. Enough was enough, it wasn't necessary to beat readers over the head with her loopy science info.

    Any additional comments?

The story was so dull and the chemistry between the H/h so nonexistent that they seemed more like brother and sister than lovers. Gave this book a definite ick factor...not good for a romance novel. Enjoy the first three books in this series, save your money and leave this one on the shelf.

  • A Cowboy for Christmas

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Cat Johnson
    • Narrated By Ginger Perkins
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Sexy, independent corporate executive Casey Harrington's life and career were shaped by a childhood Christmas wish left unfulfilled. Now, 20 years later, on a Colorado cattle ranch, she finally gets everything she's always wanted - both a hot cowboy and a dream job. But Bonner "Blue" Boyd is a rancher and Casey is a New Yorker, and even if the sex between them is hot enough to start a prairie fire, they both know that city and country might mix for a week, but it can't work for a lifetime. Or can it?

Elle Raven says: "Shocking Narration great author"
    "Narrator SUCKS!"
Would you try another book from Cat Johnson and/or Ginger Perkins?

    Cat Johnson - Yes

Ginger Perkins - No F-ing Way! She had everyone from the heroine to all the male characters sounding like the "stupid" character from old western movies. Complete with voice cracking and going up and down like a adolescent boy. Not to mention the over-acting.

I think Ginger Perkins has made it to my No. 1 spot of worst narrators. Too bad for Cat.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The narration was so bad I don't remember much about the story. I guess I tuned more out than I thought I had.

How could the performance have been better?

    Retire Perkins.

Was A Cowboy for Christmas worth the listening time?

Again, had to tune out the horrible overacted, 1930's style narration by Perkins.

    Any additional comments?

I like Cat Johnson's books. But who the heck put Perkins in front of a microphone? The perfect punishment would be to make them listen to every recording Perkins made, after they were made to listen to some of the best narrators in the business like Therese Plunmer, Johanna Parker, and Kaleo Griffith.

  • Heaven, Texas

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Susan Elizabeth Phillips
    • Narrated By Anna Fields
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It seems like an easy assignment for an assertive but sweet woman like Gracie Snow: track down her friend, Bobby Denton, a famous ex-jock, and bring him to Heaven (Texas, that is) to shoot a movie. How could he refuse a glamorous offer like that? Easy....

Diana says: "If you haven't met Bobby Tom . . ."
"A book for those that are a glutton for punishment"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Has Heaven, Texas turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. It is in a category of its own.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Anna Fields?

She wasn't bad. I wouldn't hold this book against her.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Heaven, Texas?

Where to start...? How about from beginning to end?

    Any additional comments?

This book isn't like the others in the series that have some lighthearted dialogue between the characters. In this book there is no respect shown towards the heroine or the women reading this book. The hero of this story isn't just "afraid of love", he has no respect for our supposed heroine. The hero doesn't just ignore her or put her off he is down right HATEFUL towards her. It was hard to get to the end of this book and so disappointing for those of us that started out liking this series. I read, Match Me If You Can first and thought I would go back and start at the beginning, which was a mistake.

I'm done with Susan Elizabeth Phillips, the "Misogynist".

  • Three Nights of Sin

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By Anne Mallory
    • Narrated By Angèle Masters
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When her brother was arrested for murder, the ton shut its doors to Marietta Winters. No one would help her save him from the gallows - no one but Gabriel Noble. In exchange for taking the case, Gabriel requests three favors from the desperate young beauty, and Marietta has no other choice but to make a deal with the sinfully handsome devil. Searching for clues in the rough underbelly of London, Marietta must masquerade as a shamelessly wanton wench - much to Gabriel's delight. But Marietta swears to herself that her passionate moans are just for show.

    Jan says: "No Titles Required"
    "Almost Perfect."
If you could sum up Three Nights of Sin in three words, what would they be?

    Historical - Romance - Mystery

What other book might you compare Three Nights of Sin to and why?

I have not read it yet...

What does Angèle Masters bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Angele Masters did a great job performing both the multiple male roles and the female ones. From high class to working class.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Agatha Christie and Mr. GQ meets Jack the Ripper.

    Any additional comments?

I have read thousands of books. What I liked so much about this book was that Anne Malllory broke the mold or rather broke out of the mold with Three Nights of Sin. There isn't a book out there that I can compare this one to, it is one of my all time favorites.Congratulations to Ms. Mallory for her first audiobook. She really raised the bar with this one! Thank goodness a great narrator was chosen to record it.

  • The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie: Highland Pleasures, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Jennifer Ashley
    • Narrated By Angela Dawe
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It was whispered all through London society that he was a murderer, that he'd spent his youth in an asylum and was not to be trusted - especially with a lady. Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

    "Great story...Not your usual romance!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The hero is loveable and sexy. The heroine is not a whiny ditts.

What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?

She had the perfect voice and seemed to understand the unique characters.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Same as the title. It fits perfectly.

    Any additional comments?

Ian is an alpha male but not because of the usual reasons romance writers use, he is the way he is because of his genius.

I can not wait to see his other brothers stories. I hope audible will make them SOON!
