"Great Fun Read"
Yes. If you enjoy hard sci fi, you will enjoy the Ringworld engineers.
Teela Brown and Chmee the Kzin were my favourite characters. Teela as the Protectors always intrigue me and the Kzin, well who wouldn't love a battle cat?
Yes and no. I find one reader has a hard time bringing the different characters to life. Even trying different accents for different characters. A cast of readers would be much better see the Time Machine classic radio sci fi available on Audible. It was an old radio show I believe with lots of readers, sound effects, music etc etc. Very entertaining. Sci fi has so much going for it where sound effects would really lift the experience.
Killing Teela. Very sad, regrettable.
The original Rinworld was written as a stand alone novel. The books that followed did a great job of blending the Protector Novel into the Ringworld Saga and known space scenarios. As the books go forward Niven seems to have improved his writing. The Ringworlds Children was a very entertaining novel, it just finished too soon! More please Mr Niven!
"Cant wait for the rest of the series."
Definately not. How can u compare peas to carrots? Books are great and audibooks are great. Is one better than the other? Who can say. I love both.
Bernadette did very well. It would have been nice to have multiple readers, but she did well.
Bring on the rest.
"Very disappointing"
Where are the Protectors? Nowhere to be seen. The whole experience was boring and very ordinary.
Where do I start?
"Frackin Awesome"
Listening to the story over and over and sharing it with my son, who listened to it over and over etc. A great story.
So many to choose from. Perhaps the final scene of Floyd dropping the universal restorative. Interesting though self centered move.
Yes but I kept falling asleep and having to go back and start over!
Readers voice was great.
"Love this Book! So does my Son."
Right up there!
The small Protector was a standout. Finally a different character you could empathise with.Pretending to be a pet chimp ook ook really cracked me up.
Ok his voice was ok. Sorry Barrett the Tunesmith voice was way too human, with perfect pronunciation etc. And the Kzin Battle cat sounded like a castrated teenager! Barrett could have used some help with other readers to do the different voices.
Spoiler alert, Louis turning Protector then human was a nice twist.
More please Mr Niven.
"Yet another fun read."
Right up there!
Spoiler alert!! Tunesmith killing Bram and brams passing did it for me.
His voice characterizations were quite good. He tried to bring the characters to life in what I am sure was a grueling time. His Bram was especially good as the character would struggle with pronunciation as it had no lips or teeth!
Well done Mr Niven and Mr Garcia
"Awesome"
Loved every minute of it. The sound effects, the multiple actors/readers, a great experience.Highly recommended.
All of them
The scary ones
Yep
"The Prefect is Awesome!"
What can I say. Great story, great characters, great writer. What more could you want? Thanks Alastair. Your writing has hooked my 12 year old on sci fi. Nurds rule!
"House of Suns Is Awesome"
Alistair Reynolds Is a great Writer. His stories are all plot and Character driven, not just gee wiz special effects.
