"It's just ok"
I saw potential in the story and would try another book from Amanda Hocking. I wouldn't look for a book that Hannah Friedman narrated like I do with other narrators that I really like but I wouldn't not listen to a book just because Hannah Friedman is the narrator. If the book is good enough it is easier to accept a mediocre narrator. I wish the companies that make the audio versions of books did a better job casting the narrators. In some cases the narrator is horrible and I think Audible should consider wether or not they will offer the audio version without it being redone with a better narrator.
I listened to the whole series of My Blood Approves and it is the same story line with the same narrator so there is nothing else to compare it to. A better narrator could have improved the series although the book was lacking.
Mediocre, occasionally flat and occasionally whiny
Her performance was ok but definitely could have used more emotion. Sometimes her words dragged out. It was better when I listened to it in 2x speed. She definitely needs to work on her male voices.
NO
"Interesting Story Good Narrator"
It was a nice change to have something different and unpredictable. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. The characters are interesting and not one dimensional. It is hard to determine who is good and who is bad since they have qualities and moments of both. The story has believable twists and turns so it keeps you on your toes.
"Good Book Good Narrator"
I stayed up late and listened to this book all in one day. You feel invested in the characters from the beginning and feel like you are going along the journey with them. It deals with some difficult topics in a believable way without being over-the-top. The narrator was good. She was able to give each character personality and her male voices were fairly good.
"Great Story"
I had never read any of Christopher Pike's books prior to this book. I am looking forward to reading/listening to more of his work. Witch World was not the typical witch book. The story is surprising. I am looking forward to the next in the series.
"Light Read/Good Narration"
This story like the rest of the series had more potential than was delivered and was superficial and predictable although not as predictable as the first 3 books. I thought it was good as long as your expectations aren't too high. It was entertaining. The beginning was weird since one of it's main characters had never been mentioned before and neither had the villain but it get better as it went on. The characters were likable and it was nice to see a little more of the main characters in the previous books. Hawthorne did do a better job with the main characters for this book than she did in the previous books. The same problem as with the previous books was that there still wasn't enough background either in the main characters and the history of the shifters and the new villain. It was still annoying that "humans" were referred to as "statics" although it wasn't as frequent as in the first two books. It was extremely disappointing that the author didn't put more effort into it. I've said that in the reviews for the all of the books in the series so far but kept hoping each book would improve since that is typically what happens in a series. I expect the world that was created to evolve as the series goes on giving you more insight into both the characters and world that are created. I did purchase all the books in the series before I started listening to them and don't like to give up on a series I will glad the 4th book was an improvement on the 3rd book.
"Light Read/Good Narration"
This story like the first two books had more potential than was delivered and was superficial and predictable. I thought it was ok as long as your expectations aren't too high but it wasn't quite as entertaining as the other two books. It was a little bland but did pick up towards the end. Some of the characters were very likable and it was nice to see a little more of the main characters in the previous books but again it just wasn't enough. The problem was that there still wasn't enough background either in the main characters and the history of the shifters. Since the main characters were in the previous two books I expected more. It was still annoying that "humans" were referred to as "statics" although it wasn't as frequent as in the last two books. It was extremely disappointing that the author didn't put more effort into it. I've said that in the reviews for the first two books in the series so far but kept hoping each book would improve since that is typically what happens in a series. Since I did purchase all the books in the series and don't like to give up on a series I will listen to the 4th book.
"Light Read/Good Narration"
The story like the first book had more potential than was delivered and was superficial and predictable. I thought it was fine as long as your expectations aren't too high. It was entertaining and some of the characters were very likable. The problem was that there wasn't enough background either in the majority of the characters and the history of the shifters. It was also annoying that "humans" were referred to as "statics". It was disappointing that the author didn't put more effort into it.
"Light Read/Good Narration"
The story had potential but was superficial and predictable. That sounds like I didn't like it but I thought it was fine as long as your expectations aren't too high. It was entertaining and some of the characters were very likable. The problem was that there wasn't enough background either in the majority of the characters and the history of the shifters. It was also annoying that "humans" were referred to as "statics". It was disappointing that the author didn't put more effort into it.
"Fairytale"
This story was more of a traditional fairy tale than what I was expecting (hoping for). The narrator was dull and didn't add to the story. It felt like I was being read a bedtime story by my sister. I was hoping for a lot more.
"Great start to the series/Good Story"
Slow start but worth reading through to the end. It could have used a little more development for some of the characters but the overall story made it ok hoping there will be more in the next book. I also wished there were more detail in certain areas but again can understand it would have been too much to put into one book and will have to wait until the next book to fill in more detail.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
The Narrator did a good job with the performance but would have been better if the male voices were more masculine and more distinctive.
"Good Story/Not So Good Narrator"
The story is really good but not great. It had the potential of being great but had a few things that detracted from the story.
It had the feel of a combination of tv shows i.e. X-Files, Fringe, Sliders, Roswell.
The narrator was bad but not horrible. She did deliver emotion but she can not do a male voice to save her life. The female voice is kind of annoying in the way it sounds. It would have to be a really good book for me to want to listen to her again.
There is a sequel and I am looking forward to it but hoping they cast a better narrator next time.
