  • Lost Light: Harry Bosch Series, Book 9

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Len Cariou

Four years ago, LAPD detective Harry Bosch was on a movie set, asking questions about the murder of a young production assistant, when an armored car arrived with $2 million cash for use in a heist scene. In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.

    Harris says: "Dashel Hammet Redux"
    "worth a listen"

Very good! I read all books by Michael Connelly and this one hit the mark. There are many twists that keep you interested and the narrator did a great job. I could see Harry Bosch and feel his emotions. This book wasn't quite as good as City of Bones but it was very enjoyable

  • Freedom: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (24 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Jonathan Franzen
    • Narrated By David LeDoux

Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

    Lawrence says: "Believe the Hype"
    "a bit much"

I am no prude, but the the amount of graphic sex was more than I needed. The story was wonderful and it made me think of political ideals, conservation and how a person is affected by all experiences in their lives. The characters were well developed and changed before my eyes. I enjoyed the book. I didn't think it dragged at all.

  • A Reliable Wife

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Robert Goolrick
    • Narrated By Mark Feuerstein
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When a wealthy man first meets his mail-order bride in 1907, he realizes this statuesque beauty is anything but a "simple missionary's daughter." But he doesn't know of her devious plan to leave Wisconsin as a rich widow. Nor does she know of the furious demons he longs to unleash during the lonely months of snowbound isolation.

Richard says: "Intriguing story but only average writing"
    "incredible book!"

The best thing about this book is it is unlike anything I've ever read. I've read a lot of books and usually I can tell what will happen and what the characters will do, but not with this one. It is dark and sad and hopeful all at the same time. This book is well worth a credit.

  • The Lost Symbol

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 51 mins)
    • By Dan Brown
    • Narrated By Paul Michael
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol. Within minutes of his arrival, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object is discovered in the Capitol Building. The object is an ancient invitation, meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. And when Langdon's mentor is kidnapped, Langdon's only hope of saving him is to accept this invitation and follow wherever it leads him.

Paul says: "In love with books again"
"This books needs a good review"

I am surprised that this book is not a 5 star from all reviewers. Yes, it was following a wildly popular book and movie for this author but it was worth the hype. I listened to it over a week- every chance I got. The plot was somewhat predictable and even corny in places but the action was always ongoing and the facts intersperced in the book had me doing Google searches. He had a very interesting commentary on religion that some readers felt was too "preachy". I thought it was very thought provoking. I always enjoy suspense books when I am surprised at a revelation and this one had a big one. I am anxious for my husband to read it so we can talk about it.

  • Bridge of Sighs

    • UNABRIDGED (27 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Richard Russo
    • Narrated By Arthur Morey
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Louis Charles ("Lucy") Lynch has spent all his 60 years in upstate Thomaston, New York, married to the same woman, Sarah, for 40 of them, their son now a grown man. Like his late, beloved father, Lucy is an optimist, though he's had plenty of reasons not to be: chief among them his mother, still indomitably alive.

    Victoria Wright says: "Wonderful"
    "may be the best"

I've been a member of Audible since 2001 and have heard a lot of wonderful books and this was one of the very best! I loved the length of the book and the depth that Russo developed the characters. None of the characters were totally good or evil- just like real people. One thing I really liked was the insight he had in the understanding of the characters as they aged and developed. The different stories came together to keep the book interesting. I hope it doesn't take years for Russo to write another. However long it takes, it will be worth it.

  • The King of Lies

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By John Hart
    • Narrated By David Chandler
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

John Hart creates a literary thriller that is as suspenseful as it is poignant, a riveting murder mystery layered beneath the southern drawl of a humble North Carolina lawyer. When Work Pickens finds his father murdered, the investigation pushes a repressed family history to the surface and he sees his own carefully constructed facade begin to crack.

Scott says: "Better than a Grisham novel"
    "Hard to stop listening"

I don't know what some people were listening to when they said this book was boring. It was a great listen. There was a lot of action, well developed characters and a number of twists. I found myself listening to this in two days and wanting more. If you want to lose yourself in a good story, this is the book for you.

  • The Traveler

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By John Twelve Hawks
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Maya is hiding in plain sight in London. The 26-year-old has abandoned the dangerous obligations pressed upon her by her father and chosen instead to live a normal life. But Maya comes from a long line of people who call themselves Harlequins, a fierce group of warriors willing to sacrifice their lives to protect a select few known as Travelers.

Nicholas Winn says: "Told friends and family"

This started out good but I soon changed my mind. It was just weird and is not worth the choice. As a trilogy--

  • The Inside Ring

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Michael Lawson
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

From a bluff overlooking Georgia's untamed Chattooga River, an assassin fires three shots. The President of the United States is wounded; his best friend and a Secret Service agent are killed. Two days later, a man in Landover, Maryland, commits suicide, and in the man's home is overwhelming evidence that he was responsible for the assassination attempt.

Jonathan Hoffman says: "Thrills & Chills"

Even Scott Brick couldn't save this one! The premise of the story was good and I was really into it for the first half. Then it just got off track and totally unlikable, unbelievable characters took over with a lot of torture and unreal violence that wasn't necessary. The story lost a lot of ground while the main characters got totally abused. And I, as a reader, didn't really care about these unsympathetic people. I look for books with Scott Brick as a narrator but the last two, this one and The Traveler were disappointing.

  • The Kite Runner

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Khaled Hosseini
    • Narrated By Khaled Hosseini

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

    P. C..S. says: "A Worhty Read"

I loved this book. It is hard to understand different cultures, especially from the part of the world that is so painful to us. The characters are so well developed. The protagonist had more bad qualities than good and struggled to become good. The author-narrator read the book beautifully. I have a rule to only listen to my audible book when I was exercising but broke that rule. I could not turn my player off.
At first, I didn't want to be sympathetic or caring about someone from "over there". I didn't think I would like this book. I watched the ratings of other listeners for a long time and thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did.

  • Hour Game

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

A woman is found murdered in the woods with a very special watch on her wrist, and what seemed a simple case soon escalates into a nightmare. The criminal methods of some of the most infamous killers of all time are being replicated by a new predator who stalks and strikes victims with a cunning brilliance. No one can understand the murderer's motives or who the next victim will be.

    Patricia says: "Disappointing"
"not his best . . but good"

I read everything by Baldacci and am usually very pleased. This book was good. The story was not as believable as most of his books were and Sean and Michelle figured things out a bit too easily. This book was okay and I'm glad I bought it but I hope to see better Baldacci in the future. I just finished Christmas Train and it too was a little light. I would recommend reading the book. It's not worth using a download on.

  • Across the Nightingale Floor: Tales of the Otori, Book One

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By Lian Hearn
    • Narrated By Kevin Gray, Aiko Nakasone
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A tour-de-force novel set in ancient Japan filled with passion, fantasy, and feuding warlords. The first volume in the highly anticipated Tales of the Otori trilogy.

Jody R. Nathan says: "Wonderful epic story"
    "One of the best!"

I became interested in this book by reading the reviews and was a bit skeptical because I don't usually enjoy period pieces or fantasy. The fantasy in this book was so believable it didn't seem supernatural. The names were very difficult to get used to. I listened to this one twice because I had trouble keeping the characters straight. This book was extremely well written, well narrated and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good story
