Denis Stone, a self-conscious young poet, is invited to the English town home of Crome, renowned for its gatherings of intellectuals. Hosted by Henry and Priscilla Wimbush, the house party has much to offer the naive Denis. The guests include the self-contained Anne, whom Denis adores; the handsome artist Gombauld, his rival for Anne's affections; and the cynical Mr. Scogan. All have their stories and ideas to unfold but, as Denis comes to realize, ideas cannot compensate for reality.

I bought it because it kept being suggested to me when I was searching for classic science fiction because "Brave New World" is already in my library. Not bad for what it is & would be perfect adapted as a Broadway play; ThSt being said it isn't SciFi & not what I was looking for. I wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't already psyed for it.

The United States military hides a secret: the completely real existence of eat-your-brains, one-bite-and-you're-dead zombies. The Army has known they exist for over 100, and has been quietly and expertly keeping the secret. Until now. His hometown destroyed, with everyone he has ever known dead and gone, the sole survivor of the massacre at Fall Creek joins a secret military group to combat the single greatest threat our world has ever faced. Unfortunately, his help may come too late.

The story's not bad, and the naration is excellent. The charcters are pretty well developed. I actually cared about what happened to the main characters. But zombies lose the smartness they have on video when you're just reading about them.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

It is extremely well narated. It is also a badly needed re-interpretion of some very old and important wisdom. Call it "Dao De Ching" for the 21st century", or whatever you like. I don't give f*:'(. Either way everyone should be exposed to these principals at some point in their life.

More than 3,000 years have passed since the first events recorded in Dune. Only one link survives with those tumultuous times: the grotesque figure of Leto Atreides, son of the prophet Paul Muad'Dib, and now the virtually immortal God Emperor of Dune. He alone understands the future, and he knows with a terrible certainty that the evolution of his race is at an end unless he can breed new qualities into his species.

Most of the 13 hour plus long chapters are like listening to a professor expounding cententiously and argueing with other far more sympathetic characters about religion, sociology, political science,, phylosophy, and human asexuality, etc. But if you are fascinated by those subjects or can just manage to get through it, there's some "gold" in the end that sets up a "golden path" of stories to follow.

What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Legends promise riches too numerous to count, wealth too grand to be believed. But in a shifting world of secrets and deception, such fortune comes at a high price, higher even than the searing agony Dhamon suffers under the curse of a dragon's scale. High enough to cost Dhamon his life.
