Democrat or Republican, I agree with the forward that every American should read this book and realize how close we are to returning to the dark ages. A small amount of time with no electronics, cars, or the modern conveniences we have come to rely on could descend the nation to "every man for himself". This book tells of a series of EMPs (electromagnetic pulse) crippling the nation by an unknown enemy. Soon, your neighbor becomes your enemy...or ally? Who can you trust and who is out for themselves? Great book IMHO.

I had heard about these killings & their gruesome nature before, Also how he used the World's Fair to cover them up...however I thought this book got too much into the World's Fair angle. In my opinion, I believe a lot of time was wasted on the architecture & building problems & the minutiae of the Fair and not enough time was spent on this serial killer. I found myself losing interest in the chapters having to do only with the Fair.

The Shining was a book I had always wanted to read, having heard how different it was from the movie. I wasn't sure if that was good or bad because that was a classic horror movie. So many quotable scenes & lines.
However, after listening to this book on Audible, I found it to be much better! It is completely different, but in a GREAT way!
It not only has plot twists & scenes not in the movie, but also the characters are studied in much more detail and we see & feel what they do. It drags you in & makes you feel like you are snowed in at The Overlook.
I wish they could do a movie that was true to the book but also, with the great acting & scenes that were such a major part of the film.
In ending, this was a great piece of writing that explores many more subjects that are beyond a simple "horror" story.

As a Sox fan & season ticket holder for many years, I experienced the lows, then highs, and lows again with the team.
Francona's frank, and insider information was very interesting. The "untold story" and behind the scenes tales are eye-opening and shocking at points. His battles with ownership and others (MLB officials) in addition to his kinship with players & coaches has been documented but getting his side of the story was refreshing & made for a great book.
Shaughnessy made the perfect co-writer because of his closeness to, and coverage of the team.
Any Red Sox or baseball fan should find this book extremely entertaining & informative.

I have to agree with another reviewer who said this is where King's work went from horror to literature.
The sheer amount of characters, each with an intricate & intriguing backstory all combine to make this book my favorite novel, maybe not just of his either. There are so many characters that I will admit to times having to stop & think "who is this again?" But I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing. It is not an easily predicted, pedestrian effort but a very well thought out & researched one. A+ to Mr. King for constructing & weaving together so many different characters, over such an expansive and differed stage.
The plot, is not only just timeless good vs evil, but well constructed enough to be easily translated to modern times. Where things...and people are not that black & white at all.

I very much enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator did an especially great job! It was engrossing. I have listened to it more than once.

If you have seen HBO's "The Pacific" you are familiar with Sledge's story however the book gets into more detail. A great war story by a Marine on the front lines in WWII. Great book by a true hero.

One of my favorite new books of the past year & quickly becoming a favorite of King. I have listened to this over & over again & it still does not get old. Highly recommended!

If you liked the film you'll love the book. Being from "The Town" myself I attest to its authentic feel & all too familiar story. Worth checking it out for sure.

One of my favorite books ever. Read the hardcover & then listened to the audiobook. The writer paints a picture of what this American hero went through in such vivid detail you can picture the events & places and happenings as if you were there. Great book about a great man with an unbelievable story.
