Prince Roger is coming home, but home isn't what it was when he left. Traitors have murdered his brother and sister, his nieces and nephews. His mother, the empress, is still alive but in the hands of Roger's own biological father, who controls her through drugs and physical and psychological torture. A new heir to the throne has been conceived, and once the child is born his mother will no longer be necessary to the traitors' plans.

Douglas says: "Great Ending To A Great Series"
    "David Weber AND John Ringo"
    Overall

Military Sci-Fi doesn't get much better. I have enjoyed the entire series although this is the first audio installment I have purchased. The storyline is great, but you'd probably do better to have read at least one of the previous books to enjoy this one.

The narration is excellent with fairly minor nuances in tone and pitch for the different characters.

I sure hope this isn't the last in this series. More Roger!

English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

    "fantastic!"

i am almost finished listening to this wonder. i have cried and laughed out loud. it is clever, witty, and thoroughly entertaining. simon prebble is the best narrator. he is consistent, easy to understand, and uses voices that compliment the characters. i love it!

  • Lost in a Good Book: A Thursday Next Novel

Inventive and uniquely original novelist Jasper Fforde sends his literary sleuth on another wildly imaginative journey through time and literature. Thursday Next faces a sinister global multinational corporation represented by Mr. Schitt-Hawse, beats the magistrate from Kafka's The Trial at his own game, and trains for her next assignment by apprenticing herself to Miss Havisham. Thursday then accepts the ultimate challenge: capture Acheron Hades, the murderer of characters from the classics.

Anna says: "a zany action packed romp through lit."
    "i laughed out loud"

This is worth listening to for the critical analysis of the Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies alone! Very witty, especially some of the names. The doomed duos from Spec Ops 5 are Cannon and Fodder, Deadman and Walking, Lamb and Slaughter. Great narration as well. Highly recommended!

not much sci-fi here; certainly no sci. this is really a romance novel with some anachronisms thrown in. i have to admit that i was slightly embarrassed to have enjoyed this one as much as i did. i will probably get the rest of the series.

the narration is top notch. i keep breaking into a brogue at odd moments :)
