The story was a bit hard to get into since the narrator sounded like an old lady. Ruth sounds like she is trying to make her voice soft, but instead takes on an old lady scratchy nasaly sound. All the characters have the same 'manly' tone and the main character is made to sound like a small child rather than a soft young woman.
This is a book I would probably rather read than listen to. A great book can be ruined by the wrong narrator, and this just about happened for me.
If I were you, I would skip the audible version and read the book yourself. I don't know if it is just me, but I am a much better narrator in my head than the author of this story. I read another book by this same author and loved it. This was the first audible from Liz that I got and was a bit disappointed. It is very hard to get into the story. There were much better choices to narrate in my opinion.
Normally I am all for the author narrating their own work because they know the story and how to bring it alive, but in this case, not so much. I only got through the first few chapters before giving up............
In short - Story is good, narration is not.
I enjoyed the modern adaptation of one of my Favorite Jane Austen books. I am a huge Jane Austen fan and love those types of stories, but every now and then, it is nice to read a more up to date love story.
She was very good at giving each character a different voice and her inflections and tones were very helpful in getting the listener involved in the story.
It was not boring or monotone to listen to. She did a very good job.
Captain Wentworth. Because I am a romantic.
Having the author narrate his own story was absolutely wonderful. He knew the context of his stories and therefore the tone was spot on. He was very good at the impersonations and you just got the feel of sitting down with Rob Lowe while he told you his stories.
He knew what the mood was at certain times and was able to convey that in a way that a reader can only assume.
He is a fantastic aura-tor and it was very easy to listen to and definitely something I looked forward to continuing every chance I got.
Yes. Wanted to, but unable to. 10 hours straight is a long time!
Very good experience. I was sad when it was over.
