In this well-read, charmingly accented recording, Beaton's appealing characters become more engaging. I feel that I would recognize Hamish Macbeth if I passed him on the street.
Laurie R. King's smart writing, riveting plot, and admirable protagonist coupled with Jenny Sterlin's outstanding performance make THE BEEKEEPER'S APPRENTICE my favorite recommended read/listen. I dare any of my strong female students to experience this book and not want to finish the series!
Her accent and attitude made characters feel as alive and familiar as neighbors.
I enjoyed the entire series of books, although the romantic frustration finally grows a little old.
For me, the compelling story and intriguing characters were soured by rape and torture scenes that went too far.
I have and will continue to recommend this book. Craig Ferguson is charming and funny...very funny...but also unexpectedly sincere, intimate, and uplifting.
The theme of redemption was overwhelmed by a level of brutality that was unnecessary for character of plot development.
Wroblewski's characterizations are beautiful and so powerfully honest that they will stick with me always. Dog-lovers, especially, will be strongly stirred by these characters. Richard Poe's voice was perfectly suited to this story.
