What disappointed you about Lady Oracle?

I found the main character in this book to be shallow and self absorbed. It was very difficult for me to empathise with her and I did not understand many of the actions that she took. The main character is an author and there are parts in the book where she writes/reads the book she is currently working on. The books are costume gothics which I have no interest in at all and I found this a very annoying part of the novel as it interrupted the overall flow of the story. I kept listening hoping that the ending would tie the story together and allow me to finally understand the character, but it left me even more confused and very unsatisfied.

Would you ever listen to anything by Margaret Atwood again?

Based solely on this book it is unlikely that I would seek out Ms Atwood's books to listen to again.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance of this book was good.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was annoyed that the story kept getting 'interrupted' by irrelevant side stories and disappointed in the characters and ending.

  • Rock Chick Rescue

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By Kristen Ashley
    • Narrated By Susannah Jones
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Jet McAlister has a secret. Eddie Chavez has the hots for Jet (not to mention Eddie’s just plain hot). Jet has too many problems to realize that Eddie’s interested. Eddie loses patience when Jet ends her waitressing shift at a strip club with a knife at her throat. Since Eddie’s a cop, he figures he can help. Since Jet’s used to solving everyone’s problems she doesn’t want Eddie’s help.

    "Another awesome Rock Chick book."

I loved the first book in the Rock Chick series and the second one didn't disappoint! The book has a good storyline with some interesting adventure elements (along similar lines to a Stephanie Plum novel I suppose).

The connection between Eddie and Jet is great although I did find them both a bit over the top at times. Eddie can be just a bit too macho and Jet was sometimes a bit too clueless. However, this did create tension between the two characters which provided the basis for well written romance and hot love scenes.

I found myself really engaged in the story and wanting to hear what happens next and hoping that the characters would find a happy ending. So overall I would say this is a really enjoyable read with a good story and some hot romance.

Other notes: You could read this as a stand alone book, however the characters recur throughout the series so I would recommend reading in series order if you can. Readers should note that story contains lots of swearing. I found it most appropriate for the story but if you are offended by bad language this book probably isn't for you.

  • Nice Girls Don't Live Forever: Jane Jameson, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Molly Harper
    • Narrated By Amanda Ronconi
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Jane Jameson's sexy sire Gabriel has always been unpredictable, but the seductive, anonymous notes that await him at each stop of their international vacation, coupled with his evasive behavior over the past few months, finally push Jane onto the next flight home to Half Moon Hollow -- alone, upset, and unsure whether Gabriel just ended their relationship without actually telling her.

    "Great fun listen!"
What made the experience of listening to Nice Girls Don't Live Forever the most enjoyable?

Like the rest of the books in this series, this book is witty and fun with an interesting story line.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nice Girls Don't Live Forever?

There are a number of story lines in this book that intertwine which kept it lively and interesting.

Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Amanda Ronconi is a great narrator and I have enjoyed all four of books in this series that she has narrated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was an easy and enjoyable listen that made me want to buy the next book in the series!
