    Well, this was a real bodice ripper! Some interesting characters are in this standard romance novel plot; and listening to Mr. Prebble read the steamy parts was great -- at least for the first three or four scenes. The "mystery" wasn't; and I ended up skipping just to make sure of the ending. But it was a fun romp.

Yet, as these stories reflect so accurately, life was still unsettling, and Updike chronicles telling moments both joyful and painful.     This was a good read; I like short stories, and these were very evocative. I especially liked the connected short stories. The narrators all did an excellent job. The subject matter is intriguing; relationships mostly, and poignant and funny at the same time.
