I listened to the entire recording and while it was not a great reading, it was good enough. Don't let it deter you from this story. This was my second Lovecraft download and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was exactly right for a short road trip
What a horrible story filled with whiny, narcissistic characters. It makes me embarrassed to be from Minnesota. The overwrought political commentary quickly gets tiresome. It is difficult to be interested in characters who display such obvious contempt for someone like myself.
Anyone who claims to be interested in US World War 2 or Cold War history should listen to this or read it. It is not only a remarkable story of determination, but also provides an interesting retrospective on some of the mistakes the US made immediately following World War 2. It is interesting to speculate how things could have been different, and discouraging when you realize that many have not learned from these mistakes.
A great story and an excellent example of character and leadership. I enjoyed the unique perspective on the US Civil War. I thought the narration was good and the pace of the story was exactly right. My only criticism is that it was sometimes easy to lose track of which person was being spoken about, as some of the names were similar.
The good reading cannot make up for a mediocre story. Granted, the second part of any trillogy is usually slow, but this one bogs down in unneccesary descriptions and ramblings over post-modern angst. Those who enjoy rapid plot development and movement will probably find this book tiresome.
