The Culture - a human/machine symbiotic society - has thrown up many great Game Players, and one of the greatest is Gurgeh. Jernau Morat Gurgeh. The Player of Games. Master of every board, computer and strategy. Bored with success, Gurgeh travels to the Empire of Azad, cruel and incredibly wealthy, to try their fabulous game...a game so complex, so like life itself, that the winner becomes emperor. Mocked, blackmailed, almost murdered, Gurgeh accepts the game, and with it the challenge of his life - and very possibly his death.

This is an idea book. And there are lots of good ones. The world building is amazing. Not a ton of action an adventure and the main character is not terribly likable. I was tempted to quit reading at one point because I wasn't sure if I cared what happened to him, but I did finish and was glad I did. I think I will try a few other books by this author.

Dani "Mega" O’Malley plays by her own set of rules - and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the few humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

I was not a fan of Dani in the Fever books. This series makes you understand and like her.

The story is interesting. Great mystery and danger. However, she's 14 and she's being lusted after by some MUCH older men. Its not as icky as it might sound because nothing happens and Dani is not just oblivious, but kinda grossed out by the idea. Its a little heavy-handed at times with emphasizing she's a kid.

I love the heros - all of them. And I'm curious how the story is going to turn out.

The last thing teenager Kelsey Hayes thought she'd be doing over the summer was meeting Ren, a mysterious white tiger and cursed Indian prince! When she learns she alone can break the Tiger's curse, Kelsey's life is turned upside-down. The unlikely duo journeys halfway around the world to piece together an Indian prophecy, find a way to free the man trapped by a centuries-old spell, and discover the path to their true destiny.

Such a great idea for a book! The adventure and mythology is wonderful and the author can write a fantastic romance/love scene. A female Indiana Jones meets hot Indian weretigers! I enjoyed the little bits of literature slipped into the plot. I plowed straight through the whole series.

Now for the bad: Poorly edited, overly drawn out plots, a strange mix of childish and adult language and themes, everybody is a Mary Sue.

Overall, you will roll your eyes - a lot. But you may be having too much fun to care.

Don't miss The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, soon to be a major motion picture, in theaters August 2013. Danger intensifies for the Shadowhunters as the New York Times best-selling Infernal Devices trilogy comes to a close. If the only way to save the world was to destroy what you loved most, would you do it? The clock is ticking. Everyone must choose. Passion. Power. Secrets. Enchantment. Danger closes in around the Shadowhunters in the final installment of the best-selling Infernal Devices trilogy.

This one is considerably heavier and darker than the first two in the series. Anyone who has read the first two had to know this book was going to rip our hearts out. However, it is well-written, well-read and rewards you for your suffering in the end. Worth every tear.

St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school - it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's - the very place where they're most in danger.

This is like Gossip Girl with vampires. Teenagers being mean to each other for stupid shallow reasons. The story is predictable and overblown. The main characters are annoying. The world building is overly complicated and confusing. And I found myself correcting the writing out loud while I listened.

People have said this is the weakest of the series and, though I admit to being intrigued by the love interest, that is probably not enough motivation to suffer through another book.

I am a HUGE fan of the author's Dante Valentine series. It's wonderfully dark and creative. I was a little worried that a YA series would be a watered down version of the emotional roller-coaster I enjoyed in her other writing. I was wrong. When you're completely traumatized by the second chapter, you know you're in for a great ride.

The teen voices are good and realistic. The horror, horrific. The story, while a version of similar things out there, does it in a unique enough way to be enjoyable.

Some people are complaining about the performance, but I thought it was great. She is working with what she has. It's possible the cadence of some of the character's speech may not have been suited for reading aloud.

My only real complaint is some of the pacing - the main character spends a lot of time talking to herself in her head, even during action sequences, and that can be annoying/distracting. The same habit makes listening a little awkward because it can be a little confusing what she's said aloud and what she'd said to herself.

Overall, I enjoyed this and will get the second book in the series to see where it goes.

Cassandra Palmer may be the all-powerful Pythia now, but that doesn't mean people have stopped trying to kill her. Most of the supernatural power players don't want independent-minded Cassie as chief clairvoyant - and they'll stop at nothing to see her six feet under.

I really love these books! They're full of sexy funny adventure - the characters are great and just the right amount of imperfect (i.e. they're human). You'd like to meet each of them. The world building is well done, the dialog is witty, and the plot is interesting and surprising.

The reader is pretty good. I like her tone of voice for Cassie. She can sound a little stiff at times and she mispronounces a word here and there, but its a small annoyance and doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the book.

Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he's not an easy kill. It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab.

I'm not a prude and the sex scenes in this book made me blush. Whew! The story can be a little awkward and forced at times. Some of the dialogue and characters actions seem cartoonish. But aside from that, the book is a lot of fun I would say in large part due to the narrator, who is amazing. I also quite like Bones, who I suspect is based on Spike, from Buffy.
