Dan Bernard does a great job bringing this fascinating novel to life. The story is complex, even serpentine, with numerous characters. Bernard makes it work. For lovers of psychological crime fiction at its best, this audio is highly recommended recommended.
Kathy Bell Denton really "kills" it here... in the best sense. She takes a wild and fairly decadent crime novel (some might even call this one "perverse") and turns it into compelling listening. Her tone reminded me a little of Jane Fonda's -- privileged, educated, perfect for this story.
Kudos to Jeffrey Kafer for his superb reading! He captures perfectly the rueful middle-aged angst of my character, Frank Janek, as he goes about solving his greatest case. I'm hopeful that Mr. Kafer's will be reading the other two more books in my Janek series, "Wallflower" and "Mirror Maze" for Audible.
I'm the author of this novel, so of course I'm prejudiced. But I have to say that Mr. Hill's dramatic reading was a revelation! I am incredibly grateful to him for his magnificent narration, complete with accents, wonderful pauses, and totally compelling story-line. He makes my words sound better than I remember. Best of all, he makes this novel, of which I am quite proud, come alive! Thank you, Dick Hill!
