As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob - knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. I know I'm not the intended audience for this series, although I'm female I left "young adulthood" ages (and ages) ago. I enjoyed Twilight and I will probably listen to the fourth book when it's available (I'm compulsive, okay) but listening to this book was like treading water. The "exposition fairy" ran amok in Eclipse and other than that not much else happens. Nothing is resolved. The outcome of the big "battle" is in no way unexpected. And if you edited out every sentence where Bella expresses either her own unworthiness or someone else's perfection, this book would be half as long. Fans will feel compelled to slog their way through this one but here's hoping Bella relocates her brain and her backbone in time for book 4.

The best-selling author of Second Nature, Illumination Night and Turtle Moon now offers her most fascinating and tantalizingly accomplished novel yet -- a winning tale that amply confirms Alice Hoffman's reputation not only as a genius of the vivid scene and unforgettable character but as one of America's most captivating storytellers.

Here's hoping that someone someday will produced the unabridged audio version of this novel. I read it a few years ago and loved it. Unfortunately most of the magic (practical and otherwise) and all of the charm was lost in the abridgement. The book isn't that long; why shorten it?! I recommend the (full) book and the narration was fine but don't waste a credit on this version of it.
