In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Nick says: "An entertaining, yet unfortunate story."

It was an incredibly fun listen but given the nature of the events told it is a raunchy where you wouldn't listen with the family in the car. Yet a very well told tale that thoroughly engaging and funny.

That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. In this, his first audiobook ever, Newhart gives his brilliant and bemused twist on a multitude of topics, including flying, the trials of a family holiday in a Winnebago, and more serious subjects, such as golf. And, of course, there are side-splittingly funny stories from his life and career. Who else has a drinking game named after him? ("Hi, Bob!")

What made the experience of listening to I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This! the most enjoyable?

If you enjoy Newhart or if you enjoy humor that isn't aimed at the lowest common denominator, you will enjoy yourself with this book!

What about Bob Newhart’s performance did you like?

It was consistent with his other quality performances.

    Any additional comments?

I wish it were longer but it was very funny.

Where does A Life with Karol rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best biographies of a great man, from a perspective no other could offer.

What did you like best about this story?

This was a man writing about his pope, his mentor, a legend and his friend.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The closest view of the personal side of JP2's papacy, you will ever encounter.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! It was a fun "page turner"

Political junkies will love it. Those who like good satire will appreciate it. A fun ride.

In a memoir by turns moving, tragic, and hilarious, Jerry Lewis recounts with crystal clarity every step of a 50-year friendship, from the springtime, 1945 afternoon when the two vibrant young performers destined to conquer the world together met on Broadway and 54th Street, to their tragic final encounter in the 1990s, when Lewis and his wife ran into Dean Martin, a broken and haunted old man.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you are interested in the two primary figures, it is worth your time. If you're not, then it will not be.

What about Stephen Hoye’s performance did you like?

He seemed to convey the right tone for what the author was conveying.

    Any additional comments?

It gives you a perspective of the two men you may not have had before, which is kind of the point in a book like this. But learning about them may not always leave the impression of them that you wanted to be left.

The story being told in his own voice, takes a well told account of his road through life and just adds something extra as what he conveys is all the more precise since none know the story better than he.

In this riveting and surprising personal history, John Lithgow shares a backstage view of his own struggle, crisis, and discovery, revealing the early life and career that took place out of the public eye. Above all Lithgow’s memoir is a tribute to his most important influence: his father, Arthur Lithgow, who, as an actor, director, producer, and great lover of Shakespeare, brought theater to John’s boyhood. From bedtime stories to Arthur’s illustrious productions, performance and storytelling were constant and cherished parts of family life.

Would you try another book from John Lithgow and/or John Lithgow?

Sure, he is one of the most versatile actors in the country and he is an astute observer of humanity.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It would have been nice if there was somewhat more about him, the private person and broaden the perspective on him a little wider than the book does.

What else would you have wanted to know about John Lithgow’s life?

What makes him who he is? What are his priorities and motivations? What makes things matter to him?

    Any additional comments?

If you're looking for a well told account of his professional life, then this is something you will appreciate. If you want anything outside of that realm, you may very well be disappointed.

In a series of always moving, sometimes surprising, and occasionally hilarious stories, Fr. Benedict Groeschel introduces you to the men and women who have influenced him over the course of his life. Some are unknown, such as Mr. Graff, a Jewish man who tailored the suit the young Groeschel would wear to the seminary. And some are famous, such as Mother Teresa, Cardinal John O'Connor, and Fr. Solanus Casey.

Even though his voice doesn't do the reading, the phrasing and perspective so clearly carry his "voice" in the material that it feels like spending time with the Fr. Benedict.

    Any additional comments?

From the world famous who likely will be canonized in the future, to the everyday people Fr. Benedict has known in his life; its a panorama of God working through these people in Fr. Benedict's life.

Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Its a fun story that parodies what fans of Star Trek TOS know about the Redshirts. I was not a fan of the ending but its still worth the time for a fun ride.

Four episodes of machinations and manipulation from the classic BBC political satire. Open Government/Big Brother/The Economy Drive/The Writing on the Wall The sustained dry wit of the dialogue and the wonderful interplay between the three main characters; Jim Hacker, Sir Humphrey and Bernard Wooley; made Jonathan Lynn and Antony Jay's satirical comedy compulsive viewing. The strength of the writing makes these audios a joy to listen to.

Fired from his longtime job as captain of the Coal Patrol, two-foot-three-inch, 1,300-year-old elf Gumdrop Coal is angry. He's one of Santa's original elves, inspired by the fat man's vision to bring joy to children on that one special day each year. But somewhere along the way, things went sour for Gumdrop. Maybe it was delivering one too many lumps of coal for the Naughty List. Maybe it's the conspiracy against Christmas that he's starting to sense down every chimney.

    Story

If you like noir, dark comedy, or the lampooning of hackneyed cultural associations with Christmas, this is a very unique and enjoyable Christmas time book. (Nothing in it makes fun of the religious components of Christmas, only the cliches, tv & music specials, and commercialized traditions.) Its got to be in or around the Christmas season and you have to be the person that can get into something narrated by an elf in a Sam Spade style. If so you will have a fun time with this one. I don't know anything else like it. Great parody if you like this style.
