"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"; "It is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known"; so the novel begins and ends with some of Dicken's best-known words, and between the two is every Briton's view of the worst excesses of the French Revolution.

No matter how many times I listen to this, I love it.
I imagine Dickens himself must have sounded just like Martin Jarvis.

Sent by their mother to live with their devout, self-sufficient grandmother in a small Southern town, Maya and her brother, Bailey, endure the ache of abandonment and the prejudice of the local “powhitetrash.” At eight years old, Maya is attacked by a man many times her age - and has to live with the consequences for a lifetime. But years later, she learns about love for herself and the kindness of others, her own strong spirit, and the ideas of great authors.

    I love Maya Angelou!
Her voice and her story are incredible. Listening to her tell it is like having my own private sessions with this incredible woman.

Whenever I'm tempted to deal harshly with my students, or become frustrated with my co-workers, I listen to this classic book again. The simple strategies are masterfully presented. They work beautifully.

Andrew MacMillan's voice is pleasant and authoritative.

Meet Loco, a dog with a passion for firecrackers. And Pedro, an altar boy forced to learn a hard lesson from two of the toughest, oldest men ever to serve the Lord. Jordan and Todd are two boys from California who don't know what they're in for when they push their Texas cousins a little too far. Loosely based on the author's own childhood in south Texas, this story collection is a moving whirlwind of humor and insight -brash, tender, and full of the unexpected.

Crazy Loco is one of the novels in the Hampton Brown "Edge A" reading curriculum. The book is appropriate for my hispanic lower-functioning teenaged readers. While it is not gripping literature, it is amusing and it did teach me more about my students' cultural backgrounds.
Joe Rodriguez does a fine job with the performance.
