"The Best of the Best!!"
I "read" this book over a year ago. It still is and will probably remain the best book I've ever read -- better than any movie I've ever seen. It was awesome and I couldn't put it down. The reader was excellent!!, the plot unguessable, the characters believable! I was totally drawn into this book. I find myself judging all others by it and while I've read some pretty good books...none are as memorable as this one!!
"Agreed, not as great as Cinder but still good!"
Scarlet isn't as fast paced as Cinder nor is Scarlet as adventurous (IMO) as Cinder but I did enjoy the new characters in Scarlet and enjoyed listening to the book. I agree more about Cinder, less about Scarlet would have been better but all in all it was a very good listen! Can't wait for book 3!!!
"Glad I read it, even happier it was over........"
I loved the first book, this one just did not hold my interest. I found myself able to turn it off at 'any' point and wait days to continue. Am I glad I listened?...yes. Will I listen to the 3rd?...yes. I love the main characters, just nothing exciting enough to make me 'have to listen', the signs of a great book for me.
"Continuing love for Jacobite tales...."
I very highly recommend The Winter Sea to any reader, especially romance and historical fiction lovers.
Is Carrie McClelland writing another best seller, or telling Sophie's (Carrie's ancestor) stunning story of courage, heartbreak and love? You will fall in love with Sophie & John Moray as Susanna Kearsley tells a story that will stay with you and make you want to revisit often.
I liked all and loved some of the "Outlander" books. This is as good as the best of Outlander. I was truly captivated.
The Winter Sea will not disappoint.
"Wow..."
I just finished listening and it broke my heart. I, like other reviewers did not expect the ending. This book touched me like no other has in a long long time and the emotions it stirred in me are deep. Listen to it, you'll be glad you did.
"An unexpected heartfelt listen....."
I had to stop listening to this book at one point as my heart became so heavy with sadness I didn't feel I wanted to hear anymore. But of course I turned it back on...and rather quickly as it's among the best stories I've heard to date.
I came to care so much for the charactors in this book that I felt the Nazi's inhumane treatment personally, as if it were happening to my family or people I truly care about. I can still feel the fear, pain and hopelessness of the people. This is unusual for me, as I don't usually get so "involved" with a story.
It is truly a wonderful listen and makes one such as I, who has never until listening to this book taken such a 'heartfelt look' into what it must have been like to be Jewish during that horrible time. I will be thinking about this book for a long long time. Please do yourself a favor....and listen!!
"ICK!!!!!!!!! Terrible"
Ick, Ick and double ICK!! I have gone back and read these reviews over and over. And yes, I was relieved to see that I'm NOT the only one who hates this book! I tried over and over to enjoy this book in any capacity. I can get over brother and sister having sex, leading a married life, whatever! But the story is soooo boring, goes nowhere except to dwell on endless nothing detail and I found myself saying "Who cares" over and over as the neverending detail stretches on and on.....and on and on...
"Definately a keeper!"
I truly, truly enjoyed this listen, beginning to end. The touching story along Anthony Heald reading it made this one of the best books I've heard. I laughed; I cried and was totally entertained the entire listen!! It's a keeper.
"Not horrible, just not funny"
While I wouldn't consider the book a washout, it was all I could do to finish it. I agree with another reviewer, Jill should have used a narrator. It was funny in places, (the sweet church lady that grabbed her would be rapist by the handle and turned him every which way but loose). The thought that one could relate this book to 'real life' is just plain scary. While humor is definately in the 'ears' of the beholder, this one just wasn't funny to me!
"Worth the listen"
I listened to this book in 2 days, so obviously had a hard time putting it down. I was frustrated at times to find that I guessed the obvious before the detectives but maybe that was the author's intent. On the other hand, it is a beautiful love story that touched my heart and I'm glad I listened.
