Tales for a Winter's Night brings together eight Arthur Conan Doyle mystery classics that originally appeared in the Strand magazine between July 1898 and January 1899. When first gathered into one volume in 1908, the book was entitled Round the Fire Stories, since the author recommended that they be read ideally "round the fire" upon a winter's night.

This was one of those great old collections of stories that could have been great but were spoiled by a lame reader and poor audio. Sounds like a tired old man talking into a tin can...

This title was only available in format 1 (8MB) or 2 (12MB) and the quality is simply terrible. Sadly this version wastes talented actor Paul Hecht whose words you can barely make out. Sounds like one of those people without a larynx who use the microphone to talk. Why not make these titles available in larger better quality files???

This was the 3rd collection of short stories I purchased through Audible and by far the best. The other two were very difficult to listen to due to poor audio quality and substandard readers. The sound quality and reader in this one are nothing to write home about but they don't spoil the fine stories.

After viewing the quality and quantity of stories in this collection I was excited to listen. Once I started, however, I was very disappointed by the monotonous, uninspired performance of the main reader. It was difficult to even stay focused on the stories: he's that bad. It also didn't help that the audio quality is poor-very tinny sounding.
