Well read, as always, by Scott Brick, this is a story of heartbreaking loss and strength of spirit in the midst of tragedy beyond belief for this young man. The many twists and turns, and the court drama that is also intertwined bring us to a very satisfying ending as it leaves nothing open-ended. While it took some time to get my mind around all the sadness, I still found myself unable to stop listening to find out what "really happened 20 years ago?" Recommend highly.

I admit I was a little skeptical about this download, but prompted by the good reviews it has received I decided to give it a listen. It was not what I had expected. With the "Plural wives" concept as its' foundation, the storyline is not preachy nor necessarily informative. It is about the lives and hearts of the Richards family. It tells of their individual pasts and present feelings, mostly with regard to the responsibilities and often lifestyle changes, of belonging to this kind of family. Through the many stumbles and heartaches along the way, it portrays their love and need for each other. I truly enjoyed this book. It made me stop and think about the weight of the choices we each make. David Aaron Baker provided a fantastic narration, as well, to deliver insight into a different lifestyle that perhaps is not so very different from our own.

I really enjoyed this book! It drew me in from the start, and kept me listening til the end. I loved the twists and turns. A real who-dunnit that kept me guessing until the last chapter. Despite some reviewers' bad opinion of the narrator, I found her voice to be very well-suited to the characters and the storyline. Some of the "sound effects", like "creak" and "bamm" were a little corny, but not distracting. Also the inflection on the proper words was very good until the last couple hours. I guess if I sat and tore it apart I could find a couple places where I would have read a line differently, but it really did not affect the meaning or the the storyline itself. I admired the main character's persistence, and was happy that the romance was not overdone. I also thought the ending was very realistic and believable. Really worth the credit!

Being a huge Jodi P fan, I had to get this one. As a grandmother of a very bright, but physically handicapped young man, I found the story especially heart-gripping. I was afraid that this would be a court drama or a right to life battle, but it is more about the lives and feelings of all the characters as they related to not only the handicapped girl, Willow, but how they affected each other. I found it to be frankly honest in revealing all the inner feelings and reactions to the situation. As usual Jodi kept me listening and sometimes crying with her in-depth portrayals of this tragic family's life. I was, however expecting a bittersweet ending, and was kind of disappointed with this one. Get out your hankies.

This was my first Laurie R. King book, but I am truly a big fan now. It was beautifully written. Supported with historical and geographical descriptions and facts, it totally had me from the start. The story is timely and believable, with down-to-earth lovable characters and, of course, crazy villains. I didn't want it to end, though, and wish there had been an epilogue. I have listened to most of the "Prey" series, and this one is my hands down favorite. Suspense held me from the first chapter. Excellent plot development; excellent character development; fantastic naration! Don't pass this one up - definitely a repeat listen.
