In his unmistakable voice and with an insider's eye on history, former Vice President Dick Cheney tells the story of his life and the nearly four decades he has spent at the center of American politics and power. In My Time is truly the last word about an incredible political era, by a man who lived it and helped define it - with courage and without compromise.

One of the orginal American Power brokers. He was involved in some of the most event changing issues of out time. Considering this fact I found his life to be humble and very simple.

In this riveting landmark autobiography, which reads like a novel, Academy Award and Emmy winner Louis Gossett, Jr., masterfully transports us to 1840s New York; Washington, D.C.; and Louisiana to experience the kidnapping and 12 years of bondage of Solomon Northup, a free man of color. Twelve Years a Slave, published in 1853, was an immediate bombshell in the national debate over slavery leading up to the Civil War.

    Story

I wanted to read the book because I saw the preview for the upcoming movie and was shocked to learn about this part of America's history. This story was so incredible that once I began listening it was hard to stop. It has been said many times but man's ability to be cruel to one another is amazing at times.

After I completed the story, I was sharing it with a few of my co-workers and was shocked to learn that my boss is the great-great-great grandson of Solomon Northrup. Just made it more incredible.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

    Story

Sycamore Row made me feel like I was dropping back in with my old college buddy Jake and all of the characters around the square. As I was listening to the story being read by Michael Beck I could picture the southern town and all the quirks that exist there. I really did not want to it to end.
