I love Bill Clinton's voice and narrations. His first book is excellent and a must listen... this book is more of a read if you are interested but do NOT listen to it. Again Clinton's narration is pleasing but the subject matter is NOT made for the audible format. Yes Bill..Giving is a noble trait ... and we get it. This is more of a book of lists and giving organizations than you can donate to. Great reference material but NOT a book for entertainment.
I have been Audible member since 1998 with overt 600 audiobooks. This one ranks about 400 overall. Among non fiction and computer genres, it ranks probably 20 out of 75 that I have listened to.
Extracts parts from Power of Habit and Malcom Gladwell type boods
Sonorous and clear but perhaps a bit dry
not really a movie type book
Overall good ideas and interesting, but the flow of the story is off. hard to settle into the story and the first chapter seems to be redundant. Some really interesting ideas but they are scattered throughout and are difficult to piece together. Probably would be better as short chapters or short stories by themselves. I am curious if they got an actor instead of a narrator to read the book if it would have flowed a little better or been more interesting.
Wry and Wonderful performance to an absolute fabulous story. Reminds me of Across the Nightingale Floor by Liam Hearn which is also one of my favorite series.
I have been an Audible Member since 1998 and have listened to over 1000 stories and novels and books. This one absolutely ranks in the top 10.
My title summaries what I think of this book and his rant. Tried to listen but shut the book down half way and deleted it. Was NOT funny except for small bits scattered. Too much needless !#$%!#$^ swearing. Perhaps if I grew up in the south and was a "good ole boy" I would have enjoyed it. OH WAIT, I did grow up in Missoura and Alabama.... still did not like the book. There are a few funny parts and I completely agree that America has turned soft.
yes. will avoid the rants
no one. he is fine and has his own character and style. I do respect that.
few funny parts and I completely agree that America has turned soft.
Absolutely without a doubt.
Wit and engaging story that do stand alone with each chapter.
Great Narration and voice. Funny.
I have listened and chortled and smiled through almost all of John Scalzi twisted and wry novels, but this one has out done the others. Not so much funny as touching. Wonderful adventure. EXCELLENT narration. Can not wait to hear the rest of the series. I loved this book so much I probably will by a paper or electronic copy to keep.
I have been an Audible member since 1998 and have listened to over 400 books. This ranks as one of my top 10 favorites.
All the characters.
multiple moments though out the bood.
Just buy it and enjoy. You will not be disappointed.
I have loved all the other Odd Thomas novels and have listened to them twice. This one sort of gets old after the first 2 hours. I am not too sure if it is the verbal mental diarrhea that I get tiring or the story like is not quite as innovate / quirky as the other novels. The performance and reading is excellent, but perhaps the story line is getting old? If you have run out of everything else to read or listen to and have absolutely nothing else, then I would recommend trying this book out. Otherwise, I am sure are there are many other books.
I loved all the stories in this book. Excellent book with superb examples. All Corporate Executives should definitely listen to the 4th chapter on Alcoa and its Transformation from habit change. Would have given it 5 stars but the ending last chapter is a bit muddled and does not quite flow well with the rest of the book. Last section seems like a thrown together college dissertation in argument for then suddenly against addictions.
Overall, absolutely a must listen for the stories.
This is one of those books that are much better hear over being read. The narration is perfectly paced and read. He captures the essence of the entire story with the single "Urrrrr" of the Minotaur. What I love most about the book is how the author captures the simple essences of life with wonderful prose and descriptions.
I actually had my daughter listen to many parts of this book to show her examples of how a great author can turn simple, mundane actions (e.g. cooking or driving or eating) can be turned into concepts and wonderful flourishing narratives without being overbearing or too "flowery."
Just a wonderful listen. Highly recommended.
I am a little more that half way through this story currently and have to say it is one of the best books I have heard ever. I have been an Audible member since 1998 and have listened to over 350 books This one is special.
Narration is one of the best. Reminds me of the "Water for Elephants" in the dream like first person active narration. Also reminds me of "The Prestige" for the magic and time period but much better.
You will NOT be disappointed. Wonder how they will every make this into a movie.
Purchased this book a while ago, but just listened to it this past week. It is one the best thriller / action audiobooks I have heard out of over 500 books since 1998. Although fiction, it is a gripping story and very pertinent to our times.
