"Stephen Hawking reads Tom Clancy"
A live person narrating it. Up until now, I thought Scott Brick held the title as worst Tom Clancy narrator. He's not even in the same league as John MacDonald.
I think I might just give up. There really needs to be a way to preview a book before you pay.
You're kidding right? I'm not even sure this is John MacDonald, it might be computer generated. Either way, I think someone needs to listen to these books before you sell them to people.
Yeah, I could turn it off and do something else.
I'm getting tired of spending good money on bad narrators. I think my membership will be cancelled this month.
"You're kidding right?"
A complete moron
Shot the narrator, and then found someone with half a brian
I was only able to stomach 30 minutes of it. He makes the "hit" team sound like a bunch of excited school girls, not professionals. He makes the president and general sound like a couple of NY City Thugs - just horrible.
I felt like throwing up
I did.
"Another Scott Brick Train Wreck"
It was a good story but the narration was typical Brick melodrama. He makes every character sound like he or she suffers from a very deep depression. Really, it's my fault. I completely missed the fact that he was the narrator. If I had seen that, I would not have bought the book.
The ending, because I didn't have to listen to Scott Brick anymore.
Find someone who understands the genre and have them narrate the book. Leave Mr. Brick to the Romance novels.
I'd watch it on cable.
"Good Book - Great Narrator"
It was a fun listen.
Just an amazing narrator. He does such a good job with this series.
It's worth it just to listen to the narrator. It's how every action book should be read.
"Kind of a snooze fest"
Don't know if it was the narrator or the story, but it just doesn't grab you and make you want to keep listening.
He does voices very well, but overall, his manner of narration makes you want to take a nap in most places. If he would have read the book with the same enthusiasm he shows in places, it would have been much better. He does have a very soothing voice, but this is supposed to be action? Right? but not so much the way it was narrated.
"Great listen"
Yes.
Everything. Good plot, good characters, lots of action, excellent narration
Fun "guy" book. Really worth a listen.
"Should be a Life TIme Movie"
I would make it into a Lifetime Movie, then you could change the channel and watch something better. It's OK, but not all that gripping.....you sort of have to wade through it.
The newspaper reporter with a conscience.
Not to bad. She has a pleasant voice, and her English accent is interesting, but she has a hard time with male voices. Still she did a good job with what she had to work with.
No, I think the author needs to move on to other endeavors.
"Clancy knows how to write an ending!"
Yes, it is just a great book with a perfect ending
Yes, only one part seemed non essential and irrelevant to the story.
Top Notch. I wish he did all of Clancy's books.
It's one you want to get back to in a hurry.
This book has and ending everyone hopes for in real life but will never happen. Still, it was great to listen too.
"Could have been a great listen"
Any other narrator
I couldn't last 5 hours of this sing song melodramatic whine so I couldn't tell you.
No. I have listened to his narrations before, including Atlas Shrugged, and should have known better but this is by far his worst. To do this to a Tom Clancy Novel should be a crime. The characters are supposed to be men of action, resolve, power, but he makes then sound like they are sitting in a psychotherapy session where every word is soft and soothing, comforting to the soul, trailing off into deep contemplative thought when in fact, they should be speaking forcefully, thinking resolutely, planning aggressively. He makes the characters sound unbelievable. The character Jack Ryan is usually portrayed as strong, not a guy you would mess with, but Mr. Brick makes him sound like if you walked up behind him and said "boo" he might wet his pants.
I'll probably buy the hard copy book. I like Tom Clancy, but no, as as audio book, this one had no redeeming qualities at all. The narration just ruined it for me.
Mr. Brick needs to understand his material better, or give up narrating action novels. He certainly missed the boat on this one.
"Tree Huggers Get It In The End"
Not the best, but a good listen. Guy stuff. Guns, bad guys, good guys winning - typical man cave stuff.
The ending. Classic "you asked for it, you got it"
The end. I wont ruin it for you, but it was just the perfect ending.
Again, rather long to do that, but it was good to keep listening over a couple of days.
