I do not know what happened. The first book was excellent and was just a great thrill ride from beginning to end. There was a ton of action and the characters, for the most part, were very likeable. Rebellion seems like a different book and in fact a different writer altogether.

Rebellion just drones on and on with non-stop whining from all of the characters. I do not mind characters being overwhelmed with circumstances which gets them down and forces them to have a dim outlook. But the characters would just not stop complaining and whining about everything from the other characters, to their circumstances, to how unlikely they were to succeed.

It was just not enjoyable. I hate to say it, but I stopped listening after I was about 80% through the book. Normally I would just continue and finish the last bit, but I figured there is no way in the world I am going to listen to the last in the series when it comes out so why bother finishing Rebellion.

Even if you loved the first book as I did, I would recommend not wasting a credit on Rebellion. It is that bad.

I was pleasantly surprised at this book. When you read the description it seems that Divergent is just going to be yet another "been there, done that" type of novel. However, that is not the case. There was very good character developement and just enough excitement. Definitely looking forward to the rest in the series.

Put me in the camp of just not enjoying this book even though I absolutely loved the first book and really like the second. Why do we really need so much time with Inevera POV's? Especially all of the endless back story which added absolutely nothing to the story.

What I also find annoying is there are very few likeable POV characters. There is nothing to like about Leesha (innocent girl who now sleeps with a murderer and rapist as if it's no big deal), Jadir (the murderer and rapist), and Inevera (I don't even need a reason to dislike her). Unfortunately, we have an abundance of POV time spent on these characters.

I would actually give the first half of the book two stars and the second half four stars.

The only reason I am going to continue reading this installment is due to the fact I liked the first two books and am hoping the next in the series goes back to the roots of the story. I am so disappointed as I had such high hopes for this series.

This really was not a science fiction action book as much as it was a romance novel. The futuristic aspects with ships and blasters were really just afterthoughts.

How many times can you read about one character's POV on the attraction to another character? Seriously, every other thought was on their primal attraction.

I finally gave up 1/2 way through the book.

It took me 3 months to get through this book and I was only able to do so by listening on my ipod touch at 2x speed. Does Paolini even have an editor? I heard that his mother helped edit the first in the series, and perhaps that is why I enjoyed the first book. Each book got progressively worse with this latest, absolutely painful to get through.

The rambling narrative was horrid. I will avoid spoilers, but did we really need an hour of audio of Eragon trying to figure out his true name? How about after the final confrontation with Galbatorix? I won't say what happened, but the audiobook went on for another 5 hours! I can see tying up loose ends, but 5 hours of rambling to finish the story? This book could have been 1/3 of the length and been much more enjoyable.

The only reason I finished was because I had already listened to the first three books and wanted to see how it ended. I was very close to just looking online to find out what happened.

And one last thing. I cannot believe this book actually cost me 2 credits. Take my advice and save the credits.

What a shame. This was a decent book but I found it really hard to get into due the narration. If Cristofer Jean narrates the next in the series, I will skip the audiobook and read the paper version.

So far I am digging the book. Sanderson is doing an amazing job. However, what is up with some of the pronunciations by Kramer and Reading? For example, since when is Byar pronounced "Be-ar" rather than "By-ar" the way he did it in the past. There were a few others as well.

The story is entertaining but there was a distinct lack of any action. My other criticism is that after about 3/4's of the book I got very tired of the incessant whining of Tiercel and Harrier. Hopefully, the next book will move at a better clip and find our protagonists with more backbone.

I really enjoyed the pace of this book and the way that Lawhead again manages to take myth and transform it into a plausible entertaining story.

My only questions is, why does Audible.com not have the sequel "Scarlet" yet?
