When Roberto sneaks off to see a movie in his Italian village, he has no idea that life as he knows it is over. German soldiers raid the theater, round up the boys in the audience, and pack them onto a train. After a terrifying journey, Roberto and his best friend Samuele find themselves in a brutal work camp, where food is scarce and horror is everywhere. The boys vow to stay together no matter what. Napoli gives a revealing depiction of what happened to Italians in WWII.A subject not often written about in popular fiction. Eye opening and informative, she wraps your heart around the characters and their plight.

The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life.

This is an excellent book. The author spins a multifaceted plot that effortlessly leads the reader through vision and suspense. Her characters are real as well as her, often poetic, descriptions of the interconnectedness of two very different ways of life. The narrators are excellent and make each character even more real, especially the Amish. I couldn't wait to hear what happened next, even to the very end. A must read.
