If you have listened to the first two books then it's pretty much a given that your going to listen to the this 3rd book. If you haven't started the Demon Cycle I would highly recommend getting into it. Each book has gotten better and Pete Bradbury delivers an excellent performance.
This is a fantasy book but it does touch on many levels of emotion. The character development is great and the author puts you into a position where you can like and hate many of the characters and your feelings will change based on their interactions.
I can't wait to see how this story will continue. This is a must listen for any fan of the fantasy genre or if your a fan of characters that kick *ss!
Even if you haven't read The First Law trilogy or either the Heroes or Best Served Cold you can fully enjoy this one. Would it help to have the back story? Sure, but it is not a deal breaker.
Steven Pacey is one of my favorite Narrators and he comes through again with a stellar performance. If you are a fan of Pacey and Abercrombie's previous work then you won't be disappointed with this one.
One of the things I love about Joe Abercrombie's books is how real they feel. The detail when describing battles and the ruthlessness of the characters actions makes for deep and layered story and character arcs.
This very well be my favorite of Joe Abercrombie's books. I recommend this book if you like gritty, brutal, and bloody battles with love and good intentions mixed in.
I was first drawn to this book because it had received a high rating from other listeners. The plot sounded interesting but I still didn't know what to really expect. My experience is that this book lived up to the high rating that it had received.
The action began immediately. For a first book in a series it covers a lot of ground quickly. But at no point did I feel that we weren't getting the whole story.
Part of what I liked about this book is that it's a Sci-fi with human and alien interaction type book but the main characters actions and decisions are similar to how I think I would react given their circumstances.
I will definitely continue listening to this series and can't wait to see where B.V. Larsen takes it.
While there were many interesting moments in this book at times the story was hard to follow. I felt that I have heard some of the plot in the book before in other fantasy books. But the Narrator did put on a decent performance.
If you are a big fan of the fantasy genre and fighting done with bows, swords, and daggers then this book is worth a listen. The book is fairly short compared to many so the commitement isn't that large. If you are looking to get your feet wet in the fantasy pool then you may want to look elsewhere.
But I did enjoy this book enough that I will listen to the 2nd installment of what I believe is a trilogy.
Cleverly written! Shinning light on a period of time when survival of the fittest requires a little bit of luck. David Benioff made me laugh and cry all while keeping me on the edge of my seat.
I wasn't sure if I would like Ron Perlman's performance, eventhough I am a fan of him as an actor. But I was pleasently surprised at how smooth his delivery was.
I would definitely recommend this book.
