Terribly informative and boring. The author picked an excellent event in history but fails to put adventure or any kind of excitement in it.
a lot of people are afraid to read books based on games.they are concerned that the story world will lack complexity and that the characters will lack depth because of being based on a game. This would make the book boring and dead (dull) instead of interesting and alive.with modern computer games, this does not need to necessarily be so.Some of them have had a lot of thought planning and detail put into them. The first game based book I read was Halo:the fall of reach. That was a fantastic experience!I have so far listened to most of the books in the series, although only the eric Nylund books rate fantastic.
My point is that this is not one of those books. The narration was one of the better ones I have heard. However,it is unlikely I will give this author another chance until he learns how to write and tell a story. The first 2/3 of the book is incredibly boring. With a topic like a modern city under the sea and a plot too....how can an author manage that? The last 1/3 of the book does move along OK,but the author still manages to kill any enjoyment the listener may get from listening.Except for shallow characters, the main thing I can think of is the horrible attempt at dialogue for the characters.
skip this one
I really got into the characters of this story. I would like to see a sequel for this. It could really be enlarged upon.
Loved this book; kept me enthralled the whole way through. Well paced, well written, looking forward to the next one.
As Peter's wife, I have knitted & needleworked for most of my life, this is a perfect series for me to listen to while driving. It's amusing but not distracting, the characters are believeable as well as the story lines.
I drive alot, 20k miles in 7 months. I listened to all these books and was disappointed that there were not more of them... The story is fantastic, the characters become real, I really cared about what was happening to them.
The details were realistic even though some characters were not. It's a great series, but it really has a cliff hanger ending. I hope the author continues the series.
Mal, he had everything under control at all times.
His voice did not intrude, I usually knew who was speaking and it made the telling flow.
I can't wait for Grisham's next book! My favorite author
Spellbinding, Riveting, Fantastic!
Mandy, she was so complex, Peretti made her completely believable, her character was totally real, and she behaved so naturally in each situation.
The ability to read the book like he was telling a story, he knew where to put the pauses, hesitations, whispers, etc.
I hope he writes more novels. He's a wonderful story teller.
Excellent book. If you have to make a decision between this book or either of the 2 poorly made movies based on this book, then the choice is simple....skip the movies and read or listen to this book.Actually the book rates 5 stars but the narration is irritating enough for me to give the 4 star rating. In an effort to be overly dramatic the narrator at times yells into the microphone.
Large parts of this book are very interesting and hold your attention 100%.
Large parts of this book quotes AT LENGTH some of the sources for the authors material. The original material written by this author are the fantastically good parts. The quoted material should be left on the shelf.
The narrator does a fantastic job of narration.
I agree with a previous reviewer that it is written on the order of see spot run. This book was obviously written for young juveniles and not adults. Fantastic event but amazingly boring. Look for another book on this event instead.
