I just realized that I have not reviewed this title. First, it is one of the great pieces of literature, if not the greatest. But, I was never able to finish the book in print. The characterizations of Frederick Davidson in the Audible version make the book a real treat. A first rate performance for a book that has inspired some of the greatest thinkers of our time.
The story starts out well enough, but then the author seems to degenerate into one rape scene after another. Only one of which had any real impact to the story line. I have no idea how this book, or its follow up have gathered such a crowd. I finished the book, but it was a challenge.
The use of two narrators to portray the character at different times in his life is brilliant. Warning, you will cry.
The Artemis series is brilliant. Good writing, excellent story telling, and it never takes itself too seriously like so much fantasy does nowadays. Listen to them all!
I know that it is supposed to be fantasy, but the story makes no sense. It is almost like it was some exercise of the writer that they had to complete. I mean they have these wonderful water Dragons, but still need bridges? Then there is the constant telling of tales through something that must resemble "Countdown with Keith Olberman's" puppet theater, but without any real reason for them. I was bored almost the whole time I listened, I could not finish the book.
