Robert Neville is the last living man on earth. Everyone else has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville's blood. By day, he stalks the sleeping undead, by night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn.

    Overall

this book is a great example of how great narration can heighten the listeners experience.

This reader was incredibly chilled by both the story line and the narration.

Don't let the movie stop you-this is really nothing much like it. Try it out you will not be sorry!

The legend began in the obscure little town of Pico Mundo. A fry cook named Odd was rumored to have the extraordinary ability to communicate with the dead. Through tragedy and triumph, exhilaration and heartbreak, word of Odd Thomas' gifts filtered far beyond Pico Mundo, attracting unforgettable new friends - and enemies of implacable evil.

    Cynthia says: "Odd Hours-Disappointing"

I was so glad to see odd back again. I don't regret purchasing this book since I really enjoy both the main character and the narrator-but it is not as interesting as the first books.

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

A fascinating glimpse into the life of Lady Elinor de Lacey, the illegitimate daughter of Queen Elizabeth I, that will appeal to fans of Tudor era historical fiction. Secreted away from the woman who gave birth to her, Elinor de Lacey is raised in blissful ignorance in the English countryside by a beloved and forward-thinking father, and a loving but remote mother. After her father's death, Elinor defies her mother's wishes and accepts an invitation to become a lady-in-waiting to Elizabeth I in London.

I love Elizabethan fiction but this one really pushed the envelope. The characters were not really likeable. You don't develop a real relationship or bond with the storyteller, characters or even the era. No a fav by far!

Deciding that true romantic heroes are a thing of the past, Eloise Kelly, an intelligent American who always manages to wear her Jimmy Choo suede boots on the day it rains, leaves Harvard's Widener Library bound for England to finish her dissertation on the dashing pair of spies the Scarlet Pimpernel and the Purple Gentian. What she discovers is something the finest historians have missed: a secret history that begins with a letter dated 1803.

Amelia Peabody embarks on her first Egyptian adventure armed with unshakable self-confidence, a journal for her thoughts, and, of course, a sturdy umbrella. On her way, she rescues Evelyn Barton-Forbes, who has been "ruined" and abandoned on the streets of Rome by her lover. With a typical disregard for convention, Amelia promptly hires her fellow countrywoman as a companion and takes her to Cairo, where strange visitations and a botched kidnapping convince Amelia that there is a plot afoot to harm Evelyn.

    Todd says: "Outstanding!"
    "Okay book-bad narrator"
    Overall

I am getting to enjoy this series more with each successive book. I recommend to anyone disappointed in the flimsy plot of this one to continue on to the next book in the series. This one was more like a primer-introducing characters and eqypt. The next book is much more solid in its storytelling. Give 'em another chance!

In his most enthralling novel yet, the critically acclaimed author Matthew Pearl reopens one of literary history's greatest mysteries. The Last Dickens is a tale filled with the dazzling twists and turns, the unerring period details, and the meticulous research that thrilled readers of the best sellers The Dante Club and The Poe Shadow.

    B. Kaluzny says: "What A Gem!"
    "Total fluff"
    Overall

I was definatly taken in by this one. Ifelt like they used Dickens to sell and really lousy story. Dickens was up, he was down, he was in america, he was home. Really, was a book that you can easily find out was never published worthy of so many tedious hours of storytelling?

One of the best-loved of mystery writers weaves another tale of intrigue featuring Amelia Peabody and her archaeologist husband Radcliffe. This time the willful and witty duo must catch a murderer at an excavation of an ancient Egyptian tomb in Luxor.

Mary A. says: "Great second read!"
    "Better than the first one"
    Overall

Okay, the narrator stinks but the story was so much more cohesive. The first books plot was unravelled halfway through. This one was enchaning and gripping. Not the best book ever but pretty darn good!

Wow, one of the best books i have 'read' in a long time. The character and story development was excellent. the ending was a bit of a disapointment.

Would recommend since the end really doesn't overpower the whole.

Wow this was one of THE worst books I have ever 'read'. it was as though the author listened to 80's hair band rock while they wrote. the names are completely absurb and the sex scenes are laughable. Yuck. No depth whatsoever.
