Michael Crichton has taken this ancient text and extracted boring descriptions of caravans and sites, homing in on this one adventure with the Norsemen. I was hoping to hear the death chant, but found the eye-witness of these people, their activities, and Ahmed Ibn Fadhlan's struggle to interpret what he's seeing. Also, it seems the film, "Thirteenth Warrior" adhered strictly to the text of Ahmed Ibn Fadhlan. How refreshing!
