This cozy mystery series is well worth your time and money/credits. The reader, Katherine Kellgren, is fantastic and does a wonderful job bringing each and every character to life-- including the men (which is tough for many women readers to do). The mystery is intriguing and the characters are fun. I have not been disappointed yet by a single book in the series. This one is just as good as the others, but definitely read them in order.
This audio production was very weird. First, all phone conversations in the book sounded as if they were being made through two tin cans. I'm sure this "tinny" sound was to make it sound more like a phone call but honestly, it didn't work for me. Second, the reader did a terrible job with the female voices. I found them rather annoying. Third, the reader's regular voice just didn't seem to fit the character of Elvis Cole very well. I'm glad I had the kindle version too, as the story itself was very engaging and exciting and actually quite enjoyable to read. Definitely don't waste a credit. I paid the Whispersync discounted price and I'm glad that's all I spent.
If you are looking for a heartwarming (but in no way cheesy), purely delightful book, I highly recommend this one. I smiled almost the whole time I listened to this book (with the exception of the parts that made me feel bad for Don). Don and Rosie are refreshing characters who you can genuinely care for. This is just a "feel good" book. The narrator does a wonderful job and really brings Don to life. Definitely worth a credit.
I have such mixed feelings about this book. There were parts I loved and parts that drove me nuts or grated on me. On the one hand, it was well-written and well-narrated. Some parts were hilarious and had me laughing out loud. Other parts made me so frustrated with the main character that I just wanted to strangle her. For example, the fact that she puts up with the blatant, extreme sexual harassment from her co-worker without ever complaining to her employer really frustrated me. It was funny at first but then it just became annoying. Also, I felt like she let her kids walk all over her. Do the good parts outshine the not-so-good parts? I'm not sure. Am I sorry I read/listened to it? No. Would I recommend it? Only with reservations.
This book was a lot of fun and I found myself chuckling more than once. It is fairly typical (but still good) urban fantasy fare made even better by MacLeod Andrews' fantastic narrating. He is wonderful at portraying Stark's sarcasm and wit and is great with the other characters as well. I am very glad I gave this book a try. It is well worth the audible credit.
After listening to the first book in the series and loving the narrator (Rita Barrington), I was hesitant to listen to the next one with a different narrator. Since I listened to them back to back, it took me a few minutes to acclimate to Maisie's new voice, but after that I did enjoy this reader. I didn't like her quite as much as the first one, but she was still very good. I see that the remaining books in the series are narrated by yet another person. I hope she is as good (or better) than the previous two. It is quite frustrating for narrators to keep changing in a series especially when they have done a very good job. I did not notice any speed issues with Ms. Hicks' reading. Her pace was just fine. (Please note that I have listened to other readers who I feel read too fast and have found it quite irritating. This was not the case here.)
Storywise, the mystery in this book was very good and very emotional. These books always seem to delve into not just the physical but also the psychological reprecussions of Wolrd War I. I find I very much enjoy the blend of the historical fiction and the mystery (something I was not really expecting to enjoy quite so much).
I would strongly recommend reading the first book in the series before reading this one, as it is important to have Maisie's backstory as well as to not ruin any of the first book's surprises.
This book is well worth the audible credit!
This book started off strong. I loved its uniqueness. It was so bizarre and it kept me chuckling. The narration is very good but the story just seemed to move along a little slowly. Overall, I enjoyed it. I just wish the author would have gotten to point of the story sooner.
This is a fun cozy mystery series made even better by fantastic narration by Katherine Kellgren. I have listened to 5 of the 7 books in the series (and read the other two in print) and listening to this one was like coming home. Storywise this book might not be the strongest in the series but it was solid and entertaining. If you like the series, you should like this one. If you haven't listened before, what's stopping you? This series is well worth audible credits!
I can't say enough good things about this series and about Allison McLemore's performance! She does a fantastic job with Angel and all the other voices, as well. This book is light and fun and good for a lot of chuckles. It's a thoroughly enjoyable read/listen and well worth a credit! Keep them coming, Ms. Rowland (and Ms. McLemore).
I am so glad that I stumbled upon this book! It was so much fun. I listened to the audiobook and Hilary Huber does a great job narrating. The story itself is interesting and the characters are great. Callahan is multi-faceted and her mother is a hoot. I will definitely be listening to the next book in the series. Well worth the audible credit but also worth reading if you don't do audiobooks.
I totally enjoyed this book! It was so funny. Davis Way is a little bit pathetic (but in a funny way), quite ingenious and completely hilarious. I am so glad that I stumbled upon this book here on audible and decided to give it a try. I bought the kindle book (well worth the $2.99) and the discounted audible book (also well worth the money or the credit). Dina Perlman does a great job narrating but the book reads well in print, too (I mostly listened to it but did read some of it). I will definitely be watching out for the next book in this series. I hope they do an audible version of that one, as well.
