This is an amazing book after his dad's. I finished listening to it in several days. Although I was haunted most of the time by his up and down, I was really touched by his extreme honesty. It is a true achievement to anybody to publish a good book, and it's even harder for somebody finished a book while struggling with drug addition. Wish Nic can really get his life back. With his talent and his conscience deep in his heart, he deserves a much better life than the one controlled by drug, and his family deserves a better life, too.
Touching, engaging, exotic
They found a tooth
Yes. Very different. Not comparable
Jenna. Funny, energetic and persistent
I am glad that I listened to this book before checking the rating since I usually only listened to books with rating 4.2 or higher. All what I can say about this book is that it sounds very realistic, not dramatic, but that’s actually the scary part. It seems that it can actually happen to ordinary people.
The first half of this book is kind of depressing, especially for the first quarter. For all those little details of the life, I can feel for her. Every family may have their own pain points that something you cannot easily escape from. For Allison, it’s her needing little girl, a husband who doesn’t help (isn’t that common?), a husband who may have an affair, a mother who cannot handle the sick father and then the demanding work. During this mess, she finds out a little pill that can help her, and one pill becomes more, and then all things are falling down… During the listening, I could feel her pain, and that made me kind of depressed. However, it’s so real that it kept me engaged during the whole listening.
Once I read the news about a drunken woman who drove 4 kids including hers and her sister’s to the freeway, at the wrong direction, and had the kids killed together with the old couple who drove their car crashing into hers. After the accident, her husband was so surprised that he never found out that she was heavily drinking… after the story, I learned that many housewives actually are secretly drinking, probably to help them go through the day to day chores and get along with distant husbands, and other issues.
In the book, Jennifer wrote so well about the details of the thoughts of the main character, her struggle, her fear and her falling down. She made me nervous listening to Allison’s rehab and possible relapse. I wonder how Jennifer got all those vivid details, and I wish the best for Allison and her family. In the story, Allison’s husband runs away from the family with marathons. Running long distance actually can help to cope with depressing situations, but just don’t let running eat away too much family time. Be well, everybody.
The later part, that Hodges, Jerome and Holly try their best to track Brady down for the bomb plot. Finally, the book gets intense at that part. For the last several hours, it keeps me listening in one sitting.
More like a detective's book instead of a horror book.
Holly is my favorite. She's so fragile and at the same time, super smart and determined. A very interesting character.
No. It's kinda boring in the beginning. It's somewhat like Mike Connelly's Harry Bosch series.
Don't think he has addressed that. Instant is just instant.
Content should be better. At least write something useful. It's seems nothing is in the book. Everybody has instant, and instant works. That's all about the book.
Make the pacing faster
No. I have listened for 5 hours, and couldn't stand it anymore
Way too engaging
The two thieves. They are funny
Hadrian. When he talks, you can feel the confidence. It seems nothing can affect him
The heir and the guardian, two thieves, will guide you to the wonderful world.
Too short. Don't want it to be ended so soon.
Cannot pass the first 2 hours. The story is too detailed and extremely boring. The reader has heavy accent and annoying monotone. I could never focus on this story for continuous 20 seconds.
Listened for 3 hours, started from the beginning again, and listened for another 5 hours... too bored to continue.
After about 5 hours' listening, the story still hasn't gone anywhere. I read other reviews, and some said it only starts to get interesting half way through, which means after 10 hours, so I just gave up...
Everything seems being put together by the author conveniently. The interesting and different worlds that the author described in the previous books ended in this book with a pretty cliched fairy tale.
However, unlike the other books, this book does have a very clear end, guessing the author just run out of steam to imagine some innovative evils.
