On a summer night, police recover the body of a young woman from an abandoned pleasure boat drifting around the Stockholm archipelago. Her lungs are filled with brackish water, and the forensics team is sure that she drowned. Why, then, is the pleasure boat still afloat, and why are there no traces of water on her clothes or body?.... After spellbinding audiences in The Hypnotist, Detective Inspector Joona Linna is back in The Nightmare, an internationally best-selling Swedish thriller published to critical acclaim in dozens of countries.

Very similar to the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series -- I loved the reader's accent and all of the Swedish places -- really great!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was really well thought out and kept me guessing the entire time -- great story!

Which character – as performed by Mark Bramhall – was your favorite?

The detective is my favorite - Joona Linna is my hero and someone I could listen to forever! I listened to all of Lars Kepler's books and can't wait for the next one!

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

The powerful debut novel from New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult, Songs of the Humpback Whale is a moving story of love and family told through the eyes of five people: Jane Jones, her daughter Rebecca, and three very different men in their lives. After a watershed moment in their marriage, Jane leaves Oliver, her renowned marine biologist husband, and begins a journey across the country with Rebecca in search of understanding about her troubled past.

What did you like best about Songs of the Humpback Whale? What did you like least?

For Jodi Picoult's first book, this was great. The story was easy to follow but definitely not one of her best.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It seemed like it was the same stories, told over and over by different people. The characters were enjoyable, but I didn't get sucked in like I usually do in her novels.

    Any additional comments?

Overall, worth listening to, but not fantastic.

The killer is at large, and it appears that the elder sister of the family escaped the carnage; it seems only a matter of time until she, too, is murdered. But where can Linna begin? The only surviving witness is the boy whose mother, father, and little sister were killed before his eyes. He has suffered more than 100 knife wounds and lapsed into a state of shock. He’s in no condition to be questioned....

Listening to Mark read the book is one of the best parts of the book! His accent is perfect and listening to him pronounce all of the Swedish places and names is one of the best parts of the book! I hope he narrates the next one -- I can't wait for it to come out!

Yes, it was a good story and I enjoyed listening to it very much

The female voice was a little unnerving for the men -- made them sound very feminine
