When James Bond is asked to settle a dispute over "ungentlemanly behavior" at an exclusive gambling club, the affair is embarrassing in the extreme, for the accused is the unimpeachable Sir Hugo Drax: business tycoon, popular hero, patriot extraordinaire, and head of the multimillion-dollar Moonraker missile program on which Britain's future defense depends.

Would you listen to Moonraker again? Why?

I would listen to it again, but I doubt I'll ever find the time. I think I'll remember it for a long time, though.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bond is obviously my favorite character. He's not the super-spy of the movies, but still an admirable protagonist.

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favorite?

Vance is a good reader. His performance of Hugo Drax was probably my favorite one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have preferred to listen to it in one sitting, but that's just not how my life works. It did keep me company on some in-state road trips, though.

    Any additional comments?

I have absolutely no interest in card games of any kind, and I don't know how to play poker, bridge or any of that. So Moonraker, like Casino Royale, really shows Fleming's mastery of tension and conflict because, during the card playing scene I was riveted.

I remember enjoying the movie, but from what I remember of it there is little resemblance to this book. This is about a pre-Sputnik nuclear missile for Britain's defense. The movie was about a space shuttle (?) with a crazy space combat scene (loved it!). Besides that and the names of the principle characters, I don't think there are any similarities.

Those Mr. Big cannot possess he crushes; those who cross him will meet painful ends -- like his beautiful prisoner, Solitaire, and her lover, James Bond. Both are marked as victims in a trail of treachery that leads from New York's black underworld to the dark secrets of the island in the sun that Mr. Big calls his own. Voodoo, sharks, barracuda, time bombs, harpoon guns, torture, and terror are the ingredients for a scalding brew that reaches the boiling point in an eruption of violence.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Live and Let Die?

What happened to Felix Leiter was a real shocker. I would have never guessed Fleming would do that, especially in one of the first 007 books.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Already did. And I hate to say it, but I rather enjoy the movie versions of Bond's adventures better than the source material...so far. (Though Dr. No might be my favorite--next to the Daniel Craig 007s it's one of the most believable/faithful IMO.)

    Any additional comments?

I've seen all the Bond flicks, and I guess I've come to expect the gadgets and outlandish action.I read Casino Royale years ago and enjoyed it. Recently I decided to start reading all the books, in the order they were written. They are SOOO different from the movies. Much more realistic, but not nearly as entertaining.
