Just when I got used to familiar voices, a new narrator comes along and makes my ears bleed.

Jay Snyder's female voices are excruciating as he speaks in a weird, hyper, false falsetto and tries to speak with an English accent.

In general, he narrates the entire book like he is being timed to see how fast he can speak and sitting on the edge of his seat about to fall off. I do not think he took a breath in the first 30 min of the book. I do not know about the rest of it, because I just could not stand listening anymore - I have tried about 6 times since purchasing, to no avail. He speaks so fast and in such a hyper-intense manner, its hard to follow the story.

I love the author, the book series, and got used to the female narrator on the previous Honor books, but I will not purchase again with this narrator.

I read/listen to relax, Jay Snyder's narration left me feeling like I had just run a 4-min mile in 30 seconds! Slow down dude and let the listener enjoy the book.

I love the HH novels, and I have gotten very used to Ms. Johnson's narration, but this book never seems to end. Mr Weber has gone out of his way to destroy and wreak havoc on HH in more ways than in all of her previous "rides of the Valkyrie." Weber digs the grave so deep for the book's characters that I found myself just stopping the playback because the depression was just too much. He kills off some of our favorites as well, but we dont get the same emotional effect like when we lost Adm Raoul C.

Listening to the first two thirds of this book is a boring chore. It's all recap, bloated exposition and endless chatter that could have been done MUCH better and consisly..The book is not just slow, it crawls. There are hours of dialogue in which nothing happens and where minor characters do (and say) unimportant things. In one scene, we follow a team of marines through a captured ship, from the airlock to the bridge. Nothing happens. They don't even encounter anyone. Why was this in the book? The attack on the Manticore system is the big event of the book, but it feels very anti-climatic after listening for hours of drooning background. When compared to time wasted on the problems of prisoners, it really feels diminished. There are references to events from 'Torch' and 'Storm' which were never explained, and if you have not read or listened to them, you will be totally lost with this audiobook. I have read them, and I still got lost.

\If you are a HH fan, you will be disappointed. She is hardly in the book at all, when she is, she does not do anything. The book also ends on a huge cliffhanger, which is not at all typical for this series. I wanted to love it. It's been so long since we had a good solid HH book. But unfortunately I don't, and this isn't one! 3 stars, I gave 2 extra stars because HH is one of my favorite SiFi fictional character

Just when I got used to the female narrator for all of the other Honor Harrington books, I just was not sure what to expect with this narrator. Well, what I got was comedy! As soon as he did his first female voice, I burst out laughing. He sounds like Mrs. Doubtfire, sans the estrogen hormone injections.

It's a great book, but everytime he tries to do a "character" voice, especially female, I just start laughing. I have never heard the term "over-narrate", but this certainly describes Jay Snyder's style. His British accents are better than the previous narrator, but his female voices are just too comical for such a good book. The good thing is that if the female character has long dialogue, he tends to lose the fake falsetto as he reaches the end of the exchange.

If this narrator is selected again, someone tell him to just pull it back from the edge.

I have been a fan of David Weber's for years, and seeing that Audible had taken this flagship of Sci-Fi fiction and turned it into an audible format, made me join.

Its a great book and a fantastic series. I will admit to a little trepidation hearing a female reader relate all of the technical, scienitific mintuae, and battle scenes, but Allyson Johnson does a descent job of providing "voices" for the different characters. I think having a second voice actor for the male characters would have been better though.

I am looking forward to completeing the series and having Honor's "voice" come alive.
