"GOOD BUT..."
This is a good book, no doubt about that, however I found the narrators to be a bit disapointing. I wouldn't let this keep you from chosing this book, but if you are someone that relies heavily on the voice you may want to preview the sample. I find the need for two women readers to be unnecessary and sometimes confusing. But overall I would say it was a good book.
"Gets to you."
Wow, after listening/reading hundreds of books I have to say this one taught me a lesson. And that is that the expression "a lump in my throat" is not just an expression but a real thing! I really don't think any book has even done that to me, I don't know that anything has! The feelings protrayed in these writings are real, being a mother, you get the raw emotions. I would reccommend getting this book, but perhaps not if you have ever lost a child!
"Enjoyable His and Her sides of the story"
All I can say about the narration is this, I had just finished an audio book with this same female reader and was SO disappointed to find I just downloaded another with her! (what are the chances!)Previously her voice was so whiny, however I was suprised that she did much better on this novel, must be the difference in the books! So the lesson is don't judge a narrator by just one book!
I found the writing to be very good. There were parts where I would think to myself, yes I can see how you would feel that way and it was quite believable in the descriptions. Now as far as the book being beleivable I don't know, a little far-fetched....but still enjoyed it.
"Very good!!"
Yes, This book was so involved (in a good way!) that I am sure there would be some new things that I may not have picked up on at the first read.
No I have not, but I will now! Absolutely the best!
Yes, I was captivated from the start! I would agree with some of the other reviews that the last parts kinda drug out and weren't quite as good as the beginning but they were still worthy. I felt that this book being 4 parts was well worth my credit!!!
Keep in your mind the age of the character. I had forgotten, and was picturing an older man as the narrators voice is older. But Jake is actually a man in his 30's. The narrator makes this story though, he was perfection!
"A Downer"
I certainly would try other books from Sparks, they are usually a little more inspiring than this one.
One sad event after another
No I had not to my knowledge.
Oh I would say it was fine, just not great.
There really wasn't one happy event in the lives of the characters in this book. The overall theme was fine, intended to be happy, but individually it was a downer.
"Shallow"
I am sorry to be one of those to write a review only 9 hours into a 14 hour book. But I just don't know that I am going to bother finishing it. The whole plot just doesn't seem to have much depth. The family being childish annoying whiners! In my opinion...just because you use a lot of descriptive words does not give a book more character! I would only recommend this for maybe a beach read, something that you just want to fill time, but if you didn't get the whole way through it in a couple sittings, I think you would find that you wouldn't make time to go back to it.
"Audibly - The Best!"
I absolutely urge anyone considering to just "read" this book the old-fashioned way, to get the audio version instead! Heck, if you did "read" it you should give it a "listen" to a second time, I think you will find it a whole different book! Hands down the best book I have ever listened to! The narrators sell the entire story! The content is educational and very engrossing as well. Very likable characters. You will want to listen to the entire thing straight through. I always hesitate to say that about a book because I don't want people to go in with too high expectations. So please download this book and see for yourself! I don't think you'll regret it!
"Good Listen"
I finally got around to listening to this one. I was hesitant, but I would say it was worth a listen. It may be a bit overhyped, I don't think I would say it was the best book I have ever read! I did enjoy the narration, the character's accent made it more enjoyable. I must advise that if you are squeamish at all I would skip this book! Yes, Yes I realize that it is all part of the animal kingdom but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy listening to very graphic descriptions of such things! It is difficult especially if you are an animal lover like me!
So if you can stomach through those parts you may find yourself enjoying this book. In fact, you may find yourself re-reading it all over again once you hear how it ends!
"Alot of Religon"
I am usually a fan of this author, but I did not care for this book. Just know that this book is more about the history of religon and beliefs more so than it is about the characters and the story. Would have been more enjoyable for me if you could get to understand the characters more and not have the main subject be religon which made me tune out. It isn't so much any particular religon so I don't know that it would offend, but just recommend that you like that kind of thing before you purchase this book.
"Good Start"
I would agree with other reviews on this book, that it's enjoyable 2/3 of the way through. The last part of the book just wasn't up to par with the others. I still enjoyed the book overall but it trailed off so much in the end that I had to find the time just to finish the last 2 hours. I wouldn't let this keep you from buying the book though. Maybe just the abridged version instead?
"Too Fake"
The plot sounds interesting, but once you actually get into the story you find it all a bit unlikely. I think he really could have made this a good book without going so over-the-top with the story. And of all the audio books I have "read" I liked this narrator the least! He tries so hard and over does it so much that I think that contributed to the absurdity of the story. Even with the authors signature move "tie up all the loose ends at the end",this book left me unsatisfied.
