Johanna Lindsey brings back her popular Malory family in this special holiday story, bringing her scandalous Malorys face-to-face with their distant gypsy kin. Fans will get a chance to see how it all started as their mysterious grandmother's gypsy kin comes to them for help, and another Malory falls head-over-heels for a member of the tribe.

I am a big fan of Johanna Lindsey, but this book did not do "it" for me. I kept falling asleep every time I listened to it.

Set in Regency England, Stephanie Laurens' New York Times best-selling Bastion Club series evokes a bygone era where romantic entanglements rule the day - and inflamed desires rule the night. In A Fine Passion, Jack, Baron Warnefleet, narrowly avoids marriage when he flees London for the refuge of his estate. But there waits Lady Clarice Altwood, whose beauty is impossible to ignore.

Quite an excellent, believable story, but the narrator does not make the listening pleasant. She has an edgy voice. Quite a few love scenes, maybe a few too many.

The child of a scheming father and ruthless mother, Lady Jane Grey is born during a time when ambition dictates action. Cousin to Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, she is merely a pawn in a political and religious game in which one false step means a certain demise. But Lady Jane has remarkable qualities that help her to withstand the constant pressures of the royal machinery far better than most expect.

Excellentlyl written and narrated. This fictional historic work gifts you with becoming a part of each character and understanding of the power and dysfunction of the British monarchy. Prompted me to do more research after reading this book--Jane then NIne Day Queen versus "Bloody" Queen Mary.

Colonel William Reid has returned home from India to retire near his children, who are safely stowed at an academy in Bath. Upon his return to the Isles, however, he finds that one of his daughters has vanished, along with one of her classmates. Because she served as second-in-command to the Pink Carnation, one of England’s most intrepid spies, it would be impossible for Gwendolyn Meadows to give up the intrigue of Paris for a quiet life in the English countryside - especially when she’s just overheard news of an alliance forming between Napoleon and an Ottoman Sultan.

He also possesses raw magical talent and the ability to make objects in his vicinity light as a feather or as heavy as depleted uranium, all with a magical thought. Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It put me in a zone. Good, realistic psychological messages and character dialogue. No major tragedy. Well written, just never drew me in to the story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Nora Roberts? Why or why not?

Yes. Some of her books are quite good. This wasn't bad, just okay. No big laugh, no big cry, not much mystery...I kept guessing the story plot.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where the main character talks to her boyfriend about her abandonment feelings.

Did The Last Boyfriend inspire you to do anything?

Reinstilled the importancy of the past not getting in the way of the future.

    Any additional comments?

Not much to convince me to listen to the sequel.

If you could sum up Speaks the Nightbird in three words, what would they be?

    Gruesome, Captivating! Heart wrenching.

What other book might you compare Speaks the Nightbird to and why?

Follet!s trilogy books. Many mentally twisted characters, a few truly "good" characters embedded in a very accurate, detailed description of the historical period.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Spiritual mud house at Indian compound.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    In sickness and in health.

    Any additional comments?

Don't listen to this series if you are prone to depression!

  • Go the F--k to Sleep

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

    "What the F?"
    Overall

I can't believe someone actually thinks it's okay and funny to swear at kids. Even at our worst, we need to model our best. Go in the bathroom and scream into a towel or another bedroom and scream into your pillow. Kids have enough trouble developing good self esteem and self worth. They don't need parents slinging epithets at them. PS The poetry was quite good if you leave out the F word.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Zora Neale Hurston’s classic novel begs to be read aloud, and Ruby Dee answers the challenge with utter perfection, capturing the wide range of characters and their diverse accents with grace and power. Their Eyes Were Watching God is the luminous and haunting novel about Janie Crawford, a Southern Black woman in the 1930s, whose journey from a free-spirited girl to a woman of independence and substance has inspired writers and readers for close to 70 years.

This is one of those Oprah books. You feel sad as you hear it (not only affected by the skilled narrator, but also the content), even in the good parts. I didn't like feeling like that so did not finish listening to the book.

    Overall

If you want to understand verbal manipulative abuse and what results when you enable the accompanying narcissistic behavior, this novel will educate you. The first of the book gave an in depth play-by-play subduing narrative; the rest of the story made up for the needed but depressing self-preservation infomercial.
