Wayward Pines, Idaho, is quintessential small-town America — or so it seems. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke arrives in search of two missing federal agents, yet soon is facing much more than he bargained for. After a violent accident lands him in the hospital, Ethan comes to with no ID and no cell phone. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels…off. As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation into his colleagues’ disappearance turns up more questions than answers. Why can’t he make contact with his family in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what’s the purpose of the electrified fences encircling the town? Are they keeping the residents in? Or something else out? Each step toward the truth takes Ethan further from the world he knows, until he must face the horrifying possibility that he may never leave Wayward Pines alive…

I would not consider The Pines a must listen, but it was entertaining. It was surprising and unpredictable. If you're looking for a light but thrilling story its perfect. The narration was good and the plot was faster paced.

Winner of the Quill Award and the Corine International Book Prize, Diana Gabaldon is the #1 New York Times best-selling author of the Outlander series. This fourth novel featuring popular character Lord John Grey is told both from Lord Grey’s perspective and from that of Jamie Fraser, the star of the Outlander series.

With more than 10 million copies in print worldwide, New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series is a global phenomenon. Lord John and the Private Matter, starring one of the most popular Outlander characters, captures all the adventure and magic of the series while delivering a fresh tale that is utterly captivating.

If you're considering this book because you love Outlander you'll be disappointed. I originally dove in with the mindset of Jamie, Jamie where is JAMIE!!!! He is a mere whisper a passing breeze in the Lord John series. If you're considering it because you love Diana Gabaldon's style and rich writing you'll like it. I for one loved the Lord John character and had no problem with this story. I would caution those who find it distasteful that Lord John Grey is a homosexual, and there is romance and sex in the series. I loved it once I got over wanting it to be more Outlander!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

"Outlander" was the start of an unexpected addiction. I originated as a Sci fi/ Fantasy reader, and admittedly was mislead by the category placement of this book. It is NOT really a SCI FI/Fantasy novel. However it is AMAZING! I was interested right away.

Dianna Gaboldon has the ability to paint such a vivid picture of history you can feel it. Sex IS a big part of this story, and not mild in any form. I found myself slightly embarrassed (having been so anti romance novels) that I liked it. It has some pretty dark scenes, so faint of heart be warned!!!
I loved this book, having now read the whole series I would say the author has grown leaps and bounds since writing Outlander. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, provided they were open minded. You can't enjoy this story if you can't relate to the characters in some way. "Prudes" will hate it!! The villain is a sadist, and there is torture and rape in they story, but not to be reveled in, but over come. I would classify OUTLANDER as a romance first, historical fiction second. The rest of the series is more historically rich and calms down with the sex, but still its a romance!

I'm so thankful its fiction! My first Dan Simmons experience was great. The storey takes its sweet time meandering through twist and turns. I wouldn't recommend it if you like fast action, patience is a must with this one.
Very lovable characters make up for the predictability of the plot. You'll hang in just to make sure everything works out in the end. Not for everyone, but I liked it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

Pillars of The Earth, was an amazing rich journey in history! I hoped, cried, and laughed my way through this story.
The characters and setting are so real, you could almost touch them.
John Lee is a wonderful narrator and truly brings the story to life.
Though its quite long its never slow. The constant struggle and addaptation of the characters kept me enthralled till the end. I finished feeling that I wanted more. Definitely a must listen!

The Sweet Potato Queens are back and bawdier than ever in Southern belle extraordinaire Jill Conner Browne’s ninth edition of the hysterical series. Having experienced pretty much ALL of the crappy parts of life, Browne feels it is her duty to render whatever assistance she can to her fellow sufferers - and she does so in her own inimitable fashion.

Her father taught her there are very few situations in life that we really and truly cannot change, and it is up to us to figure out how to either make fun OUT of them - or make fun OF them.
