  • Unintended Consequences: A Stone Barrington Novel, Book 26

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Stuart Woods
    • Narrated By Tony Roberts
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Stone Barrington is no stranger to schemes and deceptions of all stripes - as an attorney for the premier white-shoe law firm Woodman & Weld, he’s seen more than his share. But when he travels to Europe under highly unusual circumstances, Stone finds himself at the center of a mystery that is, even by his standards, most peculiar.

What made the experience of listening to Unintended Consequences the most enjoyable?

Tony Roberts makes this series. He is the voice of Stone and everyone else.

Would you recommend Unintended Consequences to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes I would recommend this to a friend. As usual, this is a light read/listen. I usually listen to this series of books while I sew..

What does Tony Roberts bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He is fabulous in his narration. The characters each have their own personality that you instantly recognize as soon as you hear them "talk". Mr. Roberts is Stone.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, this series of books is very light and is not something that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

    Any additional comments?

I love this series of books, they are easy to listen and characters are great. What made the listening less than a five star review was I got the feeling that the story was written as the author was writing the story. There was thing that popped up, seemed important, and was dropped shortly afterwards with no explanation of why it was included and why it was dropped. That bothered me a great deal.

  • Still Foolin' 'Em: Where I've Been, Where I'm Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 6 mins)
    • By Billy Crystal
    • Narrated By Billy Crystal
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like ""Buying the Plot"" and ""Nodding Off,"" Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever ""test positive for Maalox""), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (""the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac""); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

Would you listen to Still Foolin' 'Em again? Why?

I will definitely listen to this again.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the fact that he included live performances. It was wonderful to hear his timing in response to the audiences response to the book.

What does Billy Crystal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Everything. I cannot imagine just reading this book. It was like Billy Crystal was in my living room telling me the story of his life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I definitely laughed. He has a way at looking at life that puts a funny spin on normal aging.

    Any additional comments?

Again, I cannot imagine just reading this book. Billy's narration added so much. I will listen to this over and over. I am looking forward to a road trip next month so I can listen to this again.

  • The Rembrandt Affair

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Daniel Silva
    • Narrated By Phil Gigante
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Determined to sever his ties with the Office, Gabriel Allon has retreated to the windswept cliffs of Cornwall with his beautiful Venetian-born wife, Chiara. But once again his seclusion is interrupted by a visitor from his tangled past: the endearingly eccentric London art dealer Julian Isherwood. As usual, Isherwood has a problem. And it is one only Gabriel can solve.

    "Not quite up to par"

Maybe it is just me, but I didn't get involved in this audio book as I usually do with books from this author. Usually I can't stop even sleep or eat, but this one just didn't hold my attention. I will listen to it again, to see if maybe I missed something early on that would have roped me into the storyline.

Logan Huett is a former Army scout who discovers magnificent Sycamore Cañon in central Arizona, where he intends to homestead. With some trepidation he wires East to the woman he had courted back in Missouri, proposing marriage. Lucinda Baker, a schoolteacher, accepts. But pioneer life proves very hard for her. Living is crude....

Jo Ann Turner says: "Good story."
    "Good, basic story. Good characters."

This is a true classic western novel from Zane Gray. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it on my way to Colorado. No surprises, but that is was a good story, with good characters.
