Lighten-up a little on the sex, because after book 1 I'm longing to 'get inside of Christian's head'. Yeah, Christian alludes to some of his problems, but after finishing book 2, the man remains an enigma. By the middle of book 2, I began to fast-foward through the sex, because 'the thrill was gone' after book1 and the first 5 chapters of book 2.
Yes, but with a disclaimer that the story seems to promise a lot that just isn't delivered in the end. It's very unlikely that I'll move on to book 3.
Yes, especially if the movie found a way to add depth to Christian.
I'm thinking about moving on to book 2 at some point, because I want to know how the love affair turns out.
This book is a sheer classic for mystical, cerebral types that can appreciate profound ideas!
The story promises a good start to what might be a promising series, and the sexual plot is definitely good - and the book was enough that I purchased book 2 in the series, but I walked away without much knowledge about Christian Grey. It's worth a credit and your ear.
Enjoyed this sequel very much! The characters were interesting and engaging; and although the storyline contained thrilling romantic threads, a little graphic sex would have added some very necessary 'flesh' to this wonderful christian novel.
This book conveyed a smooth transition from "A Voice in the Wind", and I choose this book because I wanted to re-visit the character Atretes; and the story-line kept me engaged throughout the entire reading. Of course the narration was WONDERFUL, and the narrator remained consistent with my recollection of the previous book (A Voice in the Wind). I'm somewhat disappointed that the author didn't provide a more graphic depiction of Atretes sexual exploits with the servant girl, and especially Rizpah; because it would have furthered 'colored' the possible depths of his barbarism. And the mounting sexual tension between Atretes and Rizpah, could only have been properly relieved with a detailed account of their wedding night and it's consummation; and, I needed confirmation of the emotional bond between Atretes and Rizpah that only DETAILS could provide.
There more to this story than the 1st read may render, because a deeper meaning constantly tugged at me, as the characters & storyline walked a metaphysical tightrope. I plan on reading this again, to grasp the deeper meaning, because there is one! This book was DESTINED for narration by Jim Dale. The narrator transported me to the Victorian era and kept me UP ALL NIGHT, because I couldn't put it down. After a second read, I may change this to a 5-star rating, but as it stands - it's a 4.5 in my book!
This story-line was as irresistable as a soap opera, and it balanced a careful mix of sex, violence, politics and time travel. If it weren't so long, I'd give it another listen.
I enjoyed the book, and will probably listen to it again. The narrator was great.
I didn't get bored. It was a good listen....good narrator. Too bad the story couldn't have continued with Angel Claire relationship with Tess' younger sister...that might have been a juicy tale.
