It is 1902, and a bright, inexperienced young man named Isaac Bell, only two years out of his apprenticeship at the Van Dorn Detective Agency, has an urgent message for his boss. Hired to hunt for radical unionist saboteurs in the coal mines, he is witness to a terrible accident that makes him think that something else is going on, that provocateurs are at work and bigger stakes are in play. Little does he know just how big they are. Given exactly one week to prove his case, Bell quickly finds himself pitted against two of the most ruthless opponents he has ever known.

Would you try another book from Nancy Atherton and/or Teri Clark Linden?

No. Not a mystery, and not funny, actually boring. It was a silly story, with characters that ended up being annoying rather than anything else.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I did not find anything at all interesting. It didn't have anything to hold my interest, so I didn't even finish listening to this audiobook.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Her voices were, to me just awful, especially the art dealers. When Laurie started to cry and whine I actually stopped listening.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Extreme disappointment. Since the reviews weren't at all bad. Everyone to their own opinion I guess.

    Any additional comments?

Nothing to add, other than I will give this series a miss.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It could have been a mystery and enjoyable

What could Jill Churchill have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Not have written this book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Susan Bennett’s performances?

    No I will not.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Accidental Florist?

The dead mother-in-law and the insensitivity.

    Any additional comments?

I tried several times to listen to this from my library and kept stopping. Finally, got through this very boring book. I won't listen to another by this author.

The delectable Phryne Fisher has been invited to the Last Best party of 1928. When three of the guests are kidnapped, Phryne finds she must puzzle her way through the scavenger hunt clues to retrieve the hostages. What disappointed you about Murder in the Dark?

Couldn't stand all the singing. Too much sexual content. Not really a mystery.

Has Murder in the Dark turned you off from other books in this genre?

I have listened to almost all the other stories in the series. I didn't do them in order. If i had listened to this one first i would not have gone on. Really not to my taste at all.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Stephanie Daniel?

    Don't know.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Murder in the Dark?

The singing and sex scenes. I'm not a prude, but i don't like soft porn.
