"Fabulous Story - Great Narration"
I would recommend, Cold Sassy Tree, to anyone who just wants to get lost in an entertaining story. One of my favorites!
Tom Parker brings a sense of authenticity to the story that is enhanced by his accent.
"Great Read!"
Sharing a great story is always a pleasure, and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is just such a story. It really is an in depth look at life in China from a woman's perspective in the early 1800's. Women were considered nothing, but as mother's of males, they were critical. This book gives you such insight into the lives of women and the importance of friendship is a major theme. Considering how isolated our society has become, it is interesting to see that the Chinese culture made sure women always had a small group that would stay with you for the different periods in life - childhood, marriage, widowhood.
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan could be compared to some of Amy Tan's books as well as Dreams of Joy by Lisa See.
Snow Flower was my favorite character in this book because she made the most of what life gave her. She was also multi-dimensional and fun!
This book is too long to listen to in one sitting unless you are on a long trip and need to stay awake. This is a book to savor over several days.
Enjoy!

Great Read! It's easy to just listen and immerse yourself into a simpler time and place. All time classic!
"A Great Read!"
Ken Follet is a genius as a story teller. You care about the characters, you hate some, love some, and see human nature at its finest and lowest. It is amazing to see how no matter what, human nature stays the same. The CEO's of large corporations, Drug Lords, and those trying to reach the top, are the Popes, Kings and Knights of yesteryear.
"Immerse yourself in this magnificent book."
I enjoyed every minute of this. I read Pillars of the Earth first and fell in love with Follett's ability to tell a great story and put it all in great historical context. He writes of rich characters with all of man's faults and highest aspirations.
"Not Pleased"
I love Amy Tan books, but this was a disappointment. It is hard to stay with and just sort of off. I'll always continue to follow Amy Tan, but I wish I had not bought this audio book.
