I will never have these many hours of my life back. I felt compelled to finish the series I started reading WAAAY back when. If I'd known then what I know now; I kept trying to stop listening, then figured my investment was too high and I needed to see it through. But YOU don't have to. Stop at Wolves of the Calla, and know that everything "ends" just as it should.

I LOVE Elizabeth George, and have read each and every Thomas Linley novel. She never disappoints: she is a very good writer with a flair for character and plotting rare to find in mysteries, without seeming mannered or gimmicky. The narration is first-rate.

King is starting to lose it here, after a very fetching and mostly satisfying Gunslinger series. Distinct feeling he was ready to get done with this part of his life. SofS is barely listenable, despite the mad skills of George Guidall. Still, it's better than the last book.

If you must read the final two, go ahead, but this is the only really decently written of the three. Great story, great narration.

Must admit, this is not my favorite Harry Bosch novel. He's falling into stereotype way too much here. The narration is a little too "hardboiled" for my taste as well, and Hill fails when trying to do female characters -- they come across as icy or simpering. Still, the story does build nicely with plenty of red herrings!

I expected the excellence of prose that always comes with le Carre, but was delighted (tho not surprised) at the high degree of drama and humor and tragedy delivered by Roger Rees as narrator. Highly, highly recommended!
