This is a gripping tale and a good continuation of the story, as others have mentioned I think Roy Dotrice is one of the most talented narrators I've ever had the pleasure of listening to - he makes each character come to life. However this book is probably 30%+ longer than it needs to be - I listened at 2x speed and still found it to be plodding at times. That said, I will continue on to book #3 to see what happens with the Starks, Lannisters and Tagaryans.

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Charlaine Harris has won numerous awards for her Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series, which has been adapted into the hit HBO show True Blood. In this 13th and final book, a murder rocks the town of Bon Temps and Sookie is arrested for the crime. After making bail, she sets out to clear her name - but her investigation only leads to more deaths.

Now, the year is 2041, and the investigation that began with the election of President Ryman is much bigger than anyone had assumed. With too much left to do and not much time left to do it in, the surviving staff of After the End Times must face mad scientists, zombie bears, rogue government agencies - and if there's one thing they know is true in post-zombie America, it's this: Things can always get worse. Blackout is the conclusion to the epic trilogy that includesFeed and Deadline.

I really enjoyed the first two books in the Newsflash trilogy, they were fast-paced and kept my attention, the first I read in about 24 hours. The third book fell flat - one-dimensional characters who resembled Scooby Doo's posse - always seeming to find the bad guy at the right possible moment. Nothing really held my interest and I ended the book very disappointed. The narrators I thoroughly enjoyed, they brought life to these flat characters.

The gigantic comet had slammed into Earth, forging earthquakes a thousand times too powerful to measure on the Richter scale, tidal waves thousands of feet high. Cities were turned into oceans; oceans turned into steam. It was the beginning of a new Ice Age and the end of civilization. But for the terrified men and women chance had saved, it was also the dawn of a new struggle for survival--a struggle more dangerous and challenging than any they had ever known....

I love this genre and having recently listened to Alas, Babylon Swan Song and One Second After I had high hopes based on the good reviews. WRONG! The writing is terrible, one-dimensional and cliched characters that I cared nothing about. It was written in 1977 (not 1957) so I was shocked that women are only there to serve the purpose of the male characters. Ick, I made myself listen until the second section and just couldn't any longer. Waste of a credit

As someone who loved the Hunger Games and Delirium trilogies I was eagerly anticipating this series based on all the positive reviews. Boy, was i disappointed. I didn't care for the narrators, the canned music or the predictable and unengaging storyline. I forced myself to finish the book but didn't care enough about the characters to bother with the sequel. Please save your credit!

In a crumbling, isolated house at the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga lives an embittered old judge. He only wants to retire in peace, but then his orphaned granddaughter, Sai, arrives on his doorstep. The judge's chatty cook watches over her, but his thoughts are mostly with his son, Biju, who is hop-scotching from one New York restaurant job to another. A novel of depth and emotion, Desai's second, long-awaited novel fulfills the grand promise established by her first.

I loved this book and zipped right through it in no time, however the narrator had inflections in all the wrong places and did not do either of the characters justice. If I had to do it over again, I'd read this on my Kindle.

Jussi Adler-Olsen is Denmark's premier crime writer. His books routinely top the bestseller lists in northern Europe, and he's won just about every Nordic crime-writing award, including the prestigious Glass Key Award-also won by Henning Mankell, Stieg Larsson, and Jo Nesbo. Now, Dutton is thrilled to introduce him to America.

Would you listen to The Keeper of Lost Causes again? Why?

This is clearly a copy of Stieg Larssen's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series - too man similarities to list however I felt the story was compelling enough to keep listening, especially the last 30 minutes. The narrator speaks quite slowly and I enjoyed the book at 2x the speed on my iPod. I look forward to the next chapter in this trilogy.

Where does Timeline rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I agree with some of the other reviews, this is a riveting read - perfect for long car rides and to make the time go by quickly. The characters are somewhat flat, but who cares - this is Michael Crichton not exactly known for his writing. The narrator however, was terrible - I hated the half whisper for Gordon who was hard to understand. Merrick's accent was confusing and became more and more annoying. Good narration can bring you into the storyline (hello Roy Dotrice) however poor narration can just as easily pull you out of a story and make it harder to enjoy.

The hotly awaited second book in the dystopian Matched trilogy.... What disappointed you about Crossed?

The story is fragmented and meanders along at disjointed pace. I found myself not really caring about what happened to the main characters

Has Crossed turned you off from other books in this genre?

the Matched trilogy is obviously a take off on Hunger Games which I absolutely loved. I had high hopes for Crossed after devouring Matched, but the odd pacing and disjointed action made it so that I had to force myself to continue listening. If you like this genre, try A Discovery of Witches and Delirium.

Have you listened to any of Kate Simses and Jack Riccobono ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Crossed?

    Too many to count

Would you try another book from Ayn Rand and/or Christopher Hurt?

    No

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The quality of the audio is very poor and the echoes of the narrator kept pulling me out of the narrative and prevented me from fully enjoying the book

Would you be willing to try another one of Christopher Hurt’s performances?

    Yes

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Boredom
