  • The Black Tulip

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Alexandre Dumas
    • Narrated By John Bolen

The tulip craze of 17th century Holland has a dark side! Cornelius van Baerle, a wealthy but naive tulip grower, finds himself entangled in the deadly politics of his time, and he must decide where his true love lies.

    Ron says: "terrible narration"
    "The Black Tulip"

This is a good story about an interesting time, subject and place, but I had such difficulty with the readers voice, diction and pacing that I have been unable to listen to much of it. I will get a copy in print and read it. The voice may not be so distracting to all listeners. I suggest listening to the sample before committing to this one.

  • Black Betty: An Easy Rawlins Mystery

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By Walter Mosley
    • Narrated By Stanley Bennett Clay

Los Angeles, 1961: Kennedy is in the White House and King is marching down South. It's a new day for many blacks in America - but not for Easy Rawlins. Easy's small real estate empire is in trouble and he is facing bankruptcy when Saul Lynx, an oily white private eye, offers him some much needed cash to track down one Elizabeth Eady, a.k.a. "Black Betty." The sensuous Betty was housekeeper to an immensely wealthy Beverly Hills family - but now has mysteriously disappeared, leaving a trail paved with blood.

Mosley is one of the best hardboiled writers working today and Black Betty is as tight as a drum. The reader is as good as readers get. If you never made it to Southern California in the earlies 60's here is your ticket. This is one ride you won't want to end.

  • Atlas Shrugged , Volume 2

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Ayn Rand
    • Narrated By Christopher Hurt

Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus, which launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon. Atlas Shrugged emerged as a premier moral apologia for capitalism, a defense that had an electrifying effect on millions of readers (and now listeners) who have never heard capitalism defended in other than technical terms.

Brett says: "Visionary, Astounding, Life Changing....."
    "Atlas Shrugged"

Possibly the most important book ever written. Truly engrossing story telling. This book is worth listening to more than once. Dagny Taggart is the ultimate heroine, she was Lara Croft before Lara Croft.
Ayn Rand lays out her beneficial and liberating capitalist philosophy in a great suspense story. Read it the first time for the suspense and then reread it for the philosophy.

  • Pagan Babies

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs)
    • By Elmore Leonard
    • Narrated By Steve Buscemi

Actor Steve Buscemi lends his voice to the latest from best selling author Elmore Leonard, Pagan Babies - a fabulous caper starring a con artist impersonating a priest and his new partner, an ex-con turned stand-up comic. Browse more Leonard and hear an interview with the author on The Connection.

    "Pagan babies"

This is a really enjoyable listen. The subject matter is sobering and some may find it very disturbing, however, Pagan Babies is a masterful telling of a story. It is filled with characters who are real enough to like very much or dislike with your whole heart. The plot twists and turns and ultimately satisfies.
Steve Buscemi turns in a great performance.
