I had not read this trilogy since, well a very long time ago. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them again. This is truly a classic tale and Rob Inglis is perfect! He is exceptionally easy to listen to, and the characters really came to life with his wonderful voices and magnificant reading style! This series is a treasure in every respect, and well worth a credit if this is a genre you enjoy.

I had heard very good reviews of this book and decided to give it a listen. While I did enjoy the colorful historical backdrops, the characters and the story didn't excite me.

It was a good book and I don't rue the use of a credit, but it was not a great book. I expected a Pullitzer winner to be better. The narrator was not at all difficult to listen to, but he certainly did not perform--he just read. Again, he was good but he certainly didn't blow me away. In fact, I'm not sure I even felt a slight breeze with the narration.

This book has received excellent reviews, so maybe it's just me. Unlike others who said that they couldn't stop listening to it after getting past the slow start, at no point did I feel like I just couldn't stop listening. I usually listen to my audiobooks at every free opportunity--lunch breaks (and potty breaks) at work, while fixing dinner, et cetera. Not so with this one. I only listened to this on the long commute and bus ride to and from work each day. I'm really not sure if I would use a credit for another of Eugenides' novels.

I enjoyed everything about this novel--the story, the masterful telling of it by Ann Marie Lee, and the perfectly fleshed out characters. I was looking for a novel that had the same "feel" to its characters that Tana French creates, and Gillian Flynn certainly delivered in Sharp Objects. My favorite book are those that don't end when I close the book or read the last word...I like for the characters and their lives to linger in my mind and heart.

Just as good as the meaty, full-on characters, the story is superb. While I developed my ideas about whodunit fairly early on, it did not even slightly spoil this novel. As in life, we many times know who commits the evil, but we are even more fascinated about why.

I was perfectly pleased in every respect with this novel and I will be listening to a lot more of Gillian Flynn.

The characters continue their journeys and continue to be delightfully animated by the narrator, Rob Inglis. I am sure I will re-listen to this series many times. It is just as good as I remembered it from many years ago. I was, once again, sad that the tale ended, but joyous for many of the characters. I can't say which ones...don't want to spoil it! If you are a fan of this genre, and even if you have previously read this trilogy (as I have), you will not regret using your credits on this series.

I have put off re-listening to this book for a while now. It's like not eating all of your ice cream at once so you can savor it again later. I wanted to listen to this again almost immediately. This was one of my early Audible listens, and it is by far the one I have enjoyed the most. I was also new to Tana French, but have now listened to all of her audiobooks--still, In the Woods is my favorite.

There is rarely a day that goes by that I don't think about this story, sort of like you would an old but very dear friend that you have inexplicably lost touch with. In The Woods is a mystery, but not in the flavor of a typical whodunit. It moves slowly, methodically, and the characters are so rich and deep. I think the story is given even more texture through the compelling narration of Steven Crossley. I so enjoyed him..and his narration alone has tipped my decision to spend other credits on novels he has read.

But back to In The Woods. If you want a fast-paced, good but predictable connect-the-dots mystery, this one is not for you. If you enjoy the wonderful and layered telling of a compelling story and deeply textured characters, you will certainly want to experience this novel. Some readers have complained that they felt cheated out of a certain kind of ending, but I think that just reflects how perfectly Tana French has told this story that is built on lifelike, imperfect characters with flawed relationships and visceral fears. As in life, we don't always have all the answers or desired endings.

I will savor this second time around with French and Crossley even more, so without further adieu, I think I'l just get to it!
