this story gets you right at the start and builds , with heart wretching characters and suspense, twists and shock ... the author does a beautiful job of putting you in the heads of the characters and throwing your heart on the floor and right and wrong, out the window .. great book !!!!!

I listened to this audio book with a car full of teenage girls and although there are some graphic parts that made me uncomfortable there was so much to take away from this book and so much discussion , it was a powerful , gripping story with so many life lessons a must read for you and your teen.

Jodi Picoult delivers the riveting tale of one small town's entanglement with high-school violence.

New York Superior Court Judge Alex Cormier is assigned to preside over the case of the alleged Sterling High School shooter. Lawyer Jordan McAffee represents Peter, the boy who, on the day of the shooting, was found in the corner of the gymnasium holding a gun to his head with a shaky hand. Detective Patrick DuCharme has one star witness, but her story keeps changing. And then there's the biggest problem of all: the star witness happens to be Judge Cormier's daughter.
