In The American Future, historian Simon Schama takes a long look at the multiple crises besetting the United States and asks how these problems look in the mirror of time. In four crucial debates - on wars, religion, race and immigration, and the relationship between natural resources and prosperity - Schama looks back to see more clearly into the future. Full of lost insights, The American Future showcases Schama's acclaimed gift for storytelling, ensuring these voices will be heard again.

    D. Littman says: "Simon Schama is always entertaining"
    "Opinion masquerading as opinion"
    Overall

I tried to listen to this but after the first two chapters contained so many opinions masquerading as fact - unsubstantiated fact - I almost gave up and boy I wish I had. It got no better. I think this was written by Obama's campaign or PR department - or else David Axelrod (nickname "Karl Rove"). Look elsewhere unless you drank the kool-aid.

  • Tour of Duty: John Kerry and the Vietnam War

Written by acclaimed historian Douglas Brinkley, this is the first full-scale, intimate account of John Kerry's Navy career. Brinkley has drawn on extensive interviews with everyone who knew Kerry well in Vietnam. Kerry also entrusted to Brinkley his letters home and his voluminous "War Notes": journals, notebooks, and personal reminiscences written during and shortly after the war.

Michael says: "An Excellent Introduction to John Kerry"
"A Political vehicle not to be believed."
    Overall

Written to promote Kerry's candidacy for the democratic nomination, Brinkley unfortunatley relied on Kerry for mush of the information. As is well known Kerry is about as truthful as Clinton and thus read this as amusing fiction only. After reading this I am convinced Kerry should NOT be our next president.

Plan of Attack is the definitive account of how and why President George W. Bush, his war council, and allies launched a preemptive attack to topple Saddam Hussein and occupy Iraq. Bob Woodward's latest landmark account of Washington decision making provides an original, authoritative narrative of behind-the-scenes maneuvering, examining the causes and consequences of the most controversial war since Vietnam.

    Michael says: "Rorschach Test"
    "Bush at his Best"
    Overall

How a great President overcame a do-nothing president If only Bob Woodward had gone on the talk shows and talked on what he actually said in the book. This book shows an in charge President bending over backwards to give the enemy the benefit of the doubt.

    A great read.
Perhaps if Kerry can read this he will support our President!!

So how does maggie do it? Continue to lie for a Pesident who lied directly to her face about perjury and obstruction of justice? Her testimony is all fiction hoping to capture a little of the legacy that is quickly going down the drain as we hear more of her incompetence!

When this little boy has a tantrum and it is against a republican president - the media sure listens! He can not get his story straight to save his life, first he tells us Bush increased resources f fold over the Clintonistas then bush and friends were disinteretsed.
    So which is it Ricky?

For eight years, during Bill Clinton's two presidential terms, Madeleine Albright was an active participant in the most dramatic events of recent times, from the pursuit of peace in the Middle East to NATO's humanitarian intervention in Kosovo. Now, in an outspoken memoir, the highest-ranking woman in American history shares her remarkable story and provides an insider's view of world affairs during a period of unprecedented turbulence.

What can I say? Another book from one of the clintonistas that did nothing on Al Queda. This book is full of deceitful rationalizations. Read as fiction

  • Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

Finding logical inconsistencies, factual errors, and doublespeak wherever he looks, Al Franken takes on and destroys the myth of liberal bias in the media, hoists the Bush White House on its own rhetorical petard, and punctures the mean-spirited sanctimony of such media darlings as Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly. Timely, provocative, unfailingly honest, and always uproarious, Lies is sure to raise hackles and spark hilarity inside the Beltway and from sea to shining sea.

Peter says: "Franken's One Sided View"
