too many to recall
all were necessary
very disappointed....90% of the book was concentrated on europe and the nazi...if memory serves me correctly...there was a lot of "war" in the pacific....but the author writes about the pacific in almost an afterthought.....i'm sorry about the horrible happenings in europe...especially toward the jews and the final solution......but just as much horror was in the pacific......too bad the writer chose to ignore that
I'm originally from Cincinnati and have been and always will be a "REDS" fan and rooter but this book was a great read of the history of the Dodgers and Giants and if you are a fan of either of these teams, you owe it to yourself to read this book.
How can you go wrong with a "King" book.....good story....well paced...excellent read. I walk many miles every day and listening to a good audio book on my I pod makes the miles fly by....there were times when I reached the end of my scheduled walk...but i would do a bit more to see what was happening....
I thought this would be a fun book...info like...why does yeast make bread rise...why do fish go belly up when they die...all of the silly misc. items that are found in a book like "bathroom trivia....BUT NO ALAS...this book is totally involved in atoms...neutrons...time...space...where we evolved from...and on and on and on.....I walk every day...5-8 miles...and a good book downloaded to my ipod make the miles fly by...this book made a walk around the block seem like a "Ultra-Marathon".....if you are looking for a fun book that tells you "The History of Nearly Everything...buy another book 'cause this one just isn't it.....
a sports writer here in phoenix stated this was one of the top 10 sport books that he had ever read. based on his recommendation i read the book. the book is well written and gives a great history of the art of boxing and ring fighting. i don't think it is one of the top 10 sport books ever written but it is worth the time to read and get an in depth look at this sport.
my son gave this book to me several years ago because he knew of my love of traveling on the back roads. the book was read and then placed on the shelf where it has been for several years. when i discovered that it was available in audio form, i immediately purchased, downloaded on my ipod and enjoyed it again during my daily walks. between the first read and the recently listened to version...it is interesting to note that i have also traveled on many of the same roads...not exactly the same results but interesting travels. if you like an off the beaten path look at america...put this book on your must read list.
i walk several miles a day and this book of short stories was just perfect to listen to...especially the story read by king about the couple and their pets they bought for each other.....just a great collection of short stories from the master of story telling.....
good read but a bit disappointed because i wanted to hear more stories about the reds and not particular stories that all (or at least it seems that way) involved something about tom browning. he was a great player...good "RED"...but there was more to the reds than him.
Forsyth is the greatest...and this is one of the best he has ever written.....even though it's fiction....it could really happen........and probably does...we just haven't read about it yet...for real......
Didn't really realize what i was into when i started listening to the book...didn't take long to realize that it was an assortment of famous people just saying the same thing over and over and over.....He's the greatest...and i agree but it would have been nice to hear about some of the fights....
Originally read the book...this time it was nice to have it read to me.....great listening and Manchester does it right.
