I enjoyed the Bookseller. My first time reading this author.
Hugo and his counterparts made for a good team and
story. It just moved a little slow.
If you enjoy a book that takes its time getting there,
then this will be a nice leisure, read. Nice and tidy
wrap up at the end. With just some minor twists.
Yes, I will read the next, when\if available. [Smile]
WOW! What a great story. 20th Anniversary. How I could have missed this one? I am going to read the whole series. This first book, Enders Game, was well written, with great characters, and masterfully narrated by different voices. What a treat. No need to say any more. Just get it and enjoy! [Smile]
This is my first time reading Patrick Lee. Deep Sky was an Audible Sale Pick, based on previous books I have read. And I was super surprised. Could not put it down. One of those gets you right from the beginning books. Which are my favorite. If you like Sci-Fi, intrigue, secrets from the past and the future, this one is for you. [Smile]
First, I am a BIG Nelson Demille and John Corey FAN. I enjoyed Lion's Game, but thought the sequel, The Lion, was not as good. With the Panther John & Kate have a new nemesis, the Panther, and he is a good bad guy.
I really enjoyed this book, and think Scott Brick's narration is spot on. The addition of familiar characters like Brenner, from Up Country, and references to encounters in previous books, like Wild Fire (one of my favorite Demille books), made the book even more enjoyable.
On the flip side, the Panther, Bulus ibn al-Darwish's name is mentioned over and over and over again throughout the book. This repetition was annoying.
Too, while I REALLY enjoy John Corey's quips and sense of humor, it was unclear sometimes what he was really saying, and what he was just thinking. I do not think this was a narration issue.
Final analysis if you enjoyed Lion's Game, and Wild Fire you will equally enjoy the Panther. I know I did.
It has been some time since I have read \ listened to a Sue Grafton Novel. I enjoy her characters and the narrator. I always appreciate when a continuing story author sticks with the same reader.
At some point in the past I switched from Grafton's Abridged stories to Unabridged. I did not make the connection at the time but slowly became disinterested and stopped listening. I returned to the Abridged versions with T is for Trespass got hooked again. I and am excited to return to and finish this entertaining series.
Michael Connelly is a superb author, Harry Bosch is one of my favorite detectives, and Len Cariou has the voice to bring it all together. I have read all of the Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer stories. And have enjoyed them all to varying degrees.
But, this time Connely has outdone himself with a great DOUBLE story\case for Bosch that includes a relatively new partner, a brand new romance, plus the return of old friends, and older enemies. Often authors can get stale with reocurring characters. Not here. Bosch is on the case with fresh eyes and the supporting cast are all equally engaging.
Each of the characters, including Bosch, undergo change, are in transition, evolving, growing, and this matches perfectly with the storyline, which ends with a combination of both answers and questions about our characters and their futures.
This is not a cliffhanger. Instead you leave wanting more; excited for the next novel to begin. Thoroughly enjoyable. Can't wait for the next one.
As I mentioned in my review of Suicide Run, I'm a BIG fan of MC (Author), HB (Character) and LC (Narrator). Another triple play \ triple treat of Harry Bosch in a short format. The price is right for a quick read when you are in between monthly credits. [Smile]
Can't wait for the new book, previewed at the end of this book. Harry is on the case!
I am a HUGE Bosch fan. Especially when Len Cariou is the narrator. Short, and enjoyable stories that weave in nicely with previous Bosch books. Just purchased the next set of Connelly short Bosch stories as well. [Smile]
